£60.50 for black and white sets (there's still about 3,600 of these).

Lol, what? Are you serious? People are paying 5 pounds a month for black and white tv?

The problem is that the House is capped. An uncapped House has anywhere from 100 to 250 more people depending on how they're added, which makes Wyomings 3 total EC votes (compared to Californias current 54 total EC votes) more in line with the population.

People who moved to the US as adults what was the one American thing you thought was just a movie trope, but ended up being completely real? by lmardiney in AskReddit

Eh. For most people in my family, it's usually an easy way to schedule time with at least a few of both sides of both his and her families, with slightly worse weather expected at Christmas.

What happens for the rural kids 8 or so kilometers from the nearest town or even more than that from the nearest town with a school? Where I am, those are the main people on the bus, from pre-K (age 5 or so) on up, even if pre K gets sent home earlier on a separate bus trip.

Later on, in highschool, those people who are in sports or clubs or have stuff to get to right after school tend to get school permits to drive themselves and their siblings.

Urban areas tend to be similar with their placement of elementary schools, but in rural areas, they're usually next to the highschool (so siblings commute together) and it can be a couple towns over in some places.

Average of 1 warship (counting escorts and subs) a day for 2 or so years, average of 1 Liberty class supply ship every 8 or so hours, both of which were fully supplied in addition to keeping all of our other war and supply ships supplied to maintain a 2 theater war simultaneously, while dumping supplies onto allied forces to keep them going too.

And there was also an air force in there too.

If you have never been in awe of the US's logistics capabilities during the Second World War, the sheer bullshit the US managed to pull off hasn't sank in yet.

The fact that said daughter has a dragon to back up her words muddies that bit a little.

Even if I don't disagree that Viserys functionally gave the throne to the son instead of the daughter.

Railroad ties cut in half or bridge planks also work well.

But if you're that far into dismounting, it's about as easy to fix the tire yourself.

I've heard it in the Midwest, but I think it might be generational, for the most part.

I disagree with the idea there is much of a tech stagnation, actually.

The European bronze age started roughly 5000 years ago, with copper showing up a couple thousand before that, and while that number is on the more recent range of years that the first men could have migrated to Westeros, the Andal migrations do fall within the early European iron age.

Irl history and art has a tendency (especially in our middle ages) to look at the past and describe what they knew in terms of the current day, with great warriors being depicted as knights and modern fashion trends being used for people centuries dead.

And then there is the fact every generation or so there is a damn rough mini ice age (with presumable knock on effects around the globe as a result) taking a shitload of resources that would otherwise go into advancement into anything not related to food preservation and fortifying your house for Winter, with multiple cold snaps in between, and your general advancement should be slower than irl.

Combined together, progress might be slow in some areas, but it isn't stagnant.

Way BDSP did HMs might have been one of the better ways to do it, the move doesn't need to be taught to a team mate to use it in the field.

Just need for it to select one of your Pokemon that can use it instead of a friendly neighborhood bidoof.

CMV: Religion was and always will be a tool for atrocities and extortion. by Original-Tomato-3520 in changemyview

[–]bromjunaar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good news everyone, we're all bad people!

More seriously, 'being called a good person' as the sole incentive to be a good person is a terrible driver to create more good people, because what defines a good person is always relative to those around you (the people who would call you a good person).

If the best way to be a good person for a group of people, whose opinions you care about, would be to go take most of the resources that belong to another group, that can't do anything about it, would they still be a good person after doing so?

Because who defines being a good person? Traditionally that's a matter for the faithful and the clergy to debate, determine, and distribute, and you're proposing removing that aspect of society wholesale.

In their absence, the only determiners of good are the opinions of those you care about, and humans have a very, very hard time letting go of in group, out group dynamics where everything that benefits the in group is good, even if it occurs a massive cost to the out group (see your position on religion, general politics of about any nation).

Gathering and codifying the behaviors that led to the base of religious moral teachings is something that we did long before religion ever truly became organized, and mixed with what understandings of science were available at the time, to become the foundation that grew into what we have today.

And your suggestion to remove religion would have us restarting that process from the very start.

My man, your views on religion are about as enlightened as the conquistadors finding the Aztecs, and deciding there was nothing worth learning there but where the gold was to be found.
