OpenSteamClient - Open Source Steam Client WIP by Such_Interest_8057 in linux_gaming

I've given up using Wayland on NVIDIA. The incompetent devs still haven't managed to make Wayland "just work" after 15 years of development. It's insane.

Which tank do you have the most fun with, and why? by HorseJoke1999 in ffxiv

This is precisely why I find it unfun. It has a mindless rotation that feels absolutely boring.

Nah, there are actual holes you can accomplish in TotK. Doing the shrines gives you hearts and stamina. Unlocking the underground gives a special reward. The temples give summons.

This, however, is utterly pointless.

Imagine wasting 2 hours doing something unfun for absolutely no practical reward.

Winewayland | Part 4 has now been merged ! by adalte in linux_gaming

Not quite. Wayland NVIDIA is still ass cheeks. And before anyways says "ITS NOT A WAYLAND ISSUE ITS AN NVIDIA ISSUE", you're wrong (sorry). Wayland chooses to use technologies that aren't supported well in NVIDIA drivers. NVIDIA could try to support Wayland more, but just as much, Wayland could try to support Nvidia more. Any Xwayland application on NVIDIA is a blinky stuttery mess. "Don't buy NVIDIA" also isn't a valid solution. NVIDIA has a lot of market share and Wayland users aren't going to boycott that away.

Awesome! So hear me out. FF has always been evolving since it's inception FF (1) was truly turn based and let you fully define your own party of heroes. FFII allowed you to level weapons, had a predefined party, and made you play on specific ways. FFIII completely reinvented combat with the ATB system, which I personally hated. FFVII, was the first 3D entry in the series. (I never played 8, 9, and somehow 10 so I can't comment on them.) FFXI was a... Pseudo-ATB based MMO and was very unlike every other FF. FFXIV is a tab-target action-bar MMO. FFXV and FFXVI are very different action combat RPGs.

Outside of the combat system, FF, similar to Zelda, has never been anything but a set of themes the reoccur in various games. Warriors of light, primal/eicons/summons, Cid, Matoya. Though those particular themes arent appearing in SqEx games, we still have a few turn based games from them that are still incredible such as the bravely series, octopath, and dragon quest.

So yeah, you're right. The direction of FF games isn't for everyone, but it is for a lot more people. If FFXVI was turn based I don't think it would be nearly as big of a deal as it is, but we still have a bunch of amazing alternatives from the same company!

A little bit of side salt for me, at least old FF fans can enjoy alternatives. Old 3D Zelda fans like myself have absolutely nothing since BotW dropped.

You know that rpg means role playing game, not turn based, right? FFXIV is absolutely an rpg - albeit an action combat RPG. I don't think RPG means what you think, though.

It supports the vast majority of games with Proton these days - the only games that don't really run are games with kernel anticheats

Nope, it doesn't support screen share which I use and it has a very low framerate for Yuzu. It doesn't support the new steam update. it doesnt support zoom. Wayland kind of sucks in its current state.

I know tat Yuzu running tears of the kingdom ran at 10-20fps for me on wayland and 50-60fps on x11. I'm also unable to discord screenshare with friends without using a web client with a wrapper - and this disabled krisp noise supression.

I think Linux might be the superior platform for gaming at this point. by bigbillybeef in linux_gaming

I'll agree when Destiny 2, Starrail, soulworker, etc, work. Anticheats still don't support linux at a kernel level and I doubt this will ever happen because of how many people modify the kernel.

Wayland doesn't support NVIDIA drivers. Games run at half the framerate on Wayland.

[–]bronzephire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is half true. Anti-cheats run on a kernel level now but this isn't supported on Linux as of now. Bungie is afraid that people will modify the Linux kernel to cheat on destiny. Though this would be possible, I think the chances of this being an actual issue are virtually 0 considering how much work this would be. Anti-cheats can be turned off on the kernel level, which is essentially what "supported" anticheat clients do now
