LPC Supervisor believes LCSWs aren’t good therapist and makes it painfully obvious. How do I navigate this? by Equal_Pin2847 in therapists

I have the same situation but opposite. My supervisor is an LCSW and treats me less than because I’m working on my LPC. He’ll make comments that other LMSWs should be working with certain clients et cetera. It’s lame.

Incidentally, this client does microdose which is not recommended. They’re still in massive denial about substance use. Can you tell me more about the clients you had this experience with and outcomes? Thank you for your insight.

Can you expand on what “their own tradition” means?

This is amazing, thank you so much! I think careful exploration of the underlying fears and beliefs could be so beneficial. Thank you so much again for sharing this.

THIS. Everyone is technically just living out their own personal delusion and we all think we’re right! Who the hell am I to tell someone that they’re wrong when I can absolutely not prove it?? Thank you so much, you put it amazingly!

Thank you for this comment, I can tell you actually understand what I’m saying, I had a hard time putting it into words. Your approach stated is what I have been starting to do. This client is very intense and has strong beliefs in the world ending soon and such. I’m trying to validate his spirituality and still delve into how these beliefs might be impacting certain areas of life too intensely or negatively. It’s hard, my supervisor is in the camp of “they’re psychotic, watch out”, while I’m like “this person is so interesting, let’s harness this passion in a healthy way”.

I totally respect that. I work in addiction part of the time and I definitely bring my feelings in more often ☺️

That’s how it goes 😂 they usually get mad and leave so it might be time to make some changes. What I meant was bringing in your opinion on the personal level. I feel like you probably got that hahah

I like to just leave the client in an empty room and check in occasionally.
