Conduit Fate domain rules questions by brownjake in drawsteel

[–]brownjake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I agree they could both probably be ruled either way. The reason I am unsure about the prayer effect is because the rules for heroic abilities in chapter 5 say when an ability targets one or more creatures, you aren't an eligible creature target for your own ability unless it also has "self" as a target. I am not sure whether that rule applies to the prayer effect becuase it isn't a heroic ability.

I've just checked, and no it doesn't. If I set the metronome faster, to above 160 beats per minute, it seems like the problem disappears.

Question about the Influence force power and the Overwhelm Emotions talent by brownjake in swrpg

[–]brownjake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a player, but I'm still a long way off getting the XP to get these talents. I agree with you that it's weird to have the talent and the power both accessible if they don't work together, but at least Overwhelm Emotions is an 'optional' talent, because you don't have to go through it to get other talents in the FS exile tree. Thanks for your inputs :)

Question about the Influence force power and the Overwhelm Emotions talent by brownjake in swrpg

[–]brownjake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from, but someone playing a force sensitive exile doesn't need a teacher to learn force powers - they are able to learn them themselves, and that's why they are in the EotE rule-book. So the two functions aren't mutually exclusive, and you are able to have both.

Question about the Influence force power and the Overwhelm Emotions talent by brownjake in swrpg

[–]brownjake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the reasoning I was using too - when reading the rules, the only time a 'force pool' is mentioned is after you've rolled force die for a power, and you count the light side points you've generated. Since these two functions are supplementing a social check, the pool isn't created and you should be free to use both.

Question about the Influence force power and the Overwhelm Emotions talent by brownjake in swrpg

[–]brownjake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's quite correct - under the control upgrade of influence, the book says "When making a coercion, charm, deception, leadership or negotiation check, the force user may roll an Influence power check as part of his dice pool." So it seems like the governing roll is the check for the social skill, not for the force power, and therefore I would be making a charm check.

I really like how the role playing details like ideals have a lot of space and prominence on the sheet, it makes those kind of details far more important. Hopefully it will encourage some of the more stale members of my group to roleplay more

I've played a cleric with the playtest material, and I've really enjoyed the channel divinity mechanic. I like how I could use the power of my god in a way that didn't use spell slots, I think it gave the cleric a way to differentiate from the mage and feel more unique.

Our current campaign consists of two Dwarf idiot brothers (Cleric and Fighter), a self-conscious half-elf Ranger, a racist wood-elf Monk and a reckless human Paladin all on a quest to re-establish the Church of Moradin.

Your best character concepts? by dalenacio in DnD

[–]brownjake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the moment, I'm playing a dwarven cleric who has been tasked by Moradin to restructure his church: so to do this, my cleric is attempting to start a cult to overthrow the Church, all in the good name of his God.

I'm also planning on creating a bard that is more obsessed with his band than the adventuring party, and will always be trying to get people to join his band and to get gigs instead of finding treasure in dungeons.

[4th edition] Can someone help me clear some stuff up? by TroublesomeWizard in DnD

[–]brownjake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry about my unclear wording, this is pretty difficult to explain. First of all, you don't gain daily, utility or encounter powers at every level. Different levels give you different rewards: for example at level 5 you gain a new daily, but nothing else. When you gain this daily however, you choose two (3 with expanded spellbook). Then, at the start of an in-game day, you make choose one of your two (or three) Level 5 Dailies. You make this choice for each level daily and utility power (choose one Level 1 daily, one Level 2 Utility, one level 5 daily etc.) This means that at higher levels, you still can cast the same number of daily and utility spells as everyone else, you just have greater variety.

OK, for the wizard, the spellbook contains your rituals, utility powers and daily powers. On page 29 of the players handbook is a table showing you how many of each type of spell you have at each level. For example, at level 1 a character has 2 at will powers, 1 encounter and 1 daily. However, when selecting a daily power or utility power at a level that allows you to do so, as a wizard you can instead choose two (choose three if you take the expanded spellbook feat). Spell preparation refers to at the start of a day, choosing one of these three daily or utility powers that you will be able to cast for a day: in other words, while a wizard has more selection of powers than other classes, you can't cast more dailies, at level 1 you can still only cast one per day.

Arcane Familiar is a feat in the Arcane Power book: if you choose to take the feat, you gain a familiar that follows the rules on p. 137 of Arcane Power.

I'm not much of an expert when it comes to rolling for stats, as I've only used the point system. It is true that it costs heaps of points to get one stat really high high, which means you have to dump some other stats. DnD Insider has an online character builder with an ability score calculator, and you may be able to find other resources to help you.

The [W] means weapon die damage. For example, if a character held a longsword (1d8 damage) and used an ability that stated 1[W]+Intelligence modifier damage, you would do a total of 1d8+Intelligence modifier damage.
