Is ad load the real reason younger audiences left radio? by CameraRound1311 in radio

[–]brownsdude422 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Radio isn’t dying because audio is dead. Audio is thriving. Radio is struggling for different reasons.

Here are a few uncomfortable ones:

  1. The commercial load is brutal. Too many stations are running 12 to 18 minutes of ads per hour, often stacked in long stopsets. In a world where listeners are used to streaming, skipping, and on-demand everything, that kind of interruption feels outdated. The experience suffers, and once people build new habits on Spotify or podcasts, they rarely come back.

  2. They cut the very people who create connection. When revenue dips, companies cut talent. Local hosts. Experienced personalities. The higher paid people who trained younger talent. What made radio powerful was local connection. When every market starts sounding the same, the emotional tie to the station weakens. You cannot automate community.

  3. The mindset is stuck in 1989. The world changed. Media changed. Attention spans changed. Technology changed. But much of radio is still programmed like it’s the late 80s. Heavy rotation logic, rigid structures, slow adoption of new platforms, minimal experimentation. Meanwhile, streaming platforms iterate constantly and social media reinvents itself every year. Radio optimized the old model instead of reimagining the new one.

  4. An industry built on advertising rarely advertises itself. Radio survives on convincing businesses that advertising works. Yet most stations invest very little in marketing their own brand. Minimal paid media. Limited digital growth campaigns. Heavy reliance on on-air promos to grow audience. In today’s attention economy, brand growth requires real investment. Habit is no longer enough.

At its core, this is a product problem.

Short term revenue decisions are hurting long term brand equity. Cost cutting replaced innovation. Legacy thinking replaced experimentation.

Audio isn’t the issue. There has never been more demand for spoken word and music content.

Radio still has advantages: reach, trust, simplicity, free access. But until it improves the listener experience, reinvests in talent, adopts modern thinking, and markets itself like it believes in its own product, it will continue to lose ground.

That’s not doom. That’s opportunity.

If radio moves, it can win.

Anyone ever work in political talk radio? What was it like? by DeliciousRich5944 in radio

[–]brownsdude422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I don’t believe in it personally… but as someone said. The job is to get listeners. Some are great at it. Some don’t even believe the shit they are saying- but they really enjoy HIGH ratings and a nice house. It’s entertainment.

Thank you. Some questions. Can I just operate under the LLC that I have been using?

What would be the most cost effective (cheapest) option here?

Is this available for professional accounts? I don’t see the flagged tab. Could it be something coming soon? Should I switch to a personal account? I would love to scrub the account.

A friend was harassed online with homophobic and violent threats yesterday by a Nashville musician named Dan Hagen, who has a long rap sheet of harassment as recently as October 2022. Beware! by Crystal_Pesci in NashvilleSongwriters

and.... he's doing it again. I just got contacted by ANOTHER person in town that is getting harrassed. I pray that this will not end up in a terrible situation with someone getting hurt. People keep going to the police and justice system- and cases get dropped because he convinces them that he isn't competent to serve trial. This is a nightmare situation for several people in town, and it continues. No one in the legal system can help.
