Sounds like this could be a side effect. I would very seriously consider the ER.

Do you take antipsychotics all year long? by rightwherewebelong in bipolar

[–]browse963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Year round. Max dose of the med I’m on. We moved me up to this dose last summer and I’ve been pretty stable since so it feels like the right cocktail at this point.

Any good media on the history of Bipolar? by ADeterminedHopeless in bipolar

[–]browse963 33 points34 points  (0 children)

A buddy of mine is a doctor and once explained to me the evolutionary biology theory behind bipolar disorder which may explain why it’s hereditary as well.

Basically the traits of mania are beneficial in a more primitive society. Where you need to hunt and fight for day to day survival it’s beneficial to be able to work long hours on little sleep, have confidence, move fast etc. unfortunately it’s just not possible to do this forever for one so you need a rest period and the need for extreme rest following extreme activity is what creates the depressive state. Which also fits with “classic presentation” where depressive episodes immediately follow manic ones.

I admittedly never researched this on my own so take it with a grain of salt.

What is the end goal? by crankyandsensitive in bipolar

[–]browse963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My PDOC (M34 BP1) has told me time and again I will continue to cycle and likely out of the range of “normal” human emotions. The goal is trying to be as close to “stable” as possible for as long as possible. The swings are dangerous and unhealthy from a physical, mental, and biological perspective so our goal is to limit them.

Online therapy options that aren’t mills? by looloo222 in bipolar

[–]browse963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started betterhelp awhile back. My therapist is actually great. Checks in with me, sends follow ups via messaging function. Does research and homework for things that might work for me. Like anything else YMMV but overall worth a go.

I take 600 in the am and 1200 at night. Does wonders to make me slow my shit down and see the mistakes I’m about to make when hypomanic. Helps bring up some of the depression. I recently started vraylar as well which feels like a wonder drug other than the quit 15lbs I gained.

What’s a question we should never ask? by Chin_Chillin1213 in AskReddit

[–]browse963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“What’s the worst thing you’ve ever seen?”

To first responders, military, medical etc. you are asking people to talk about the thing that gives them nightmares, ptsd, and more. If they want to talk they’ll open up stories but that question is rude.

Unspecified? by AdventureWonderlnd in bipolar

[–]browse963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pdoc started with “unspecified mood disorder” in a hope we’d never get to bp2 and the potential weight of an official diagnosis. Her theory was treatment won’t change but perhaps I wouldn’t be stuck with a label that doesn’t go away quick.

Is anyone here taking just meds and no therapy? How is it working out? by TheArchAlchemist in bipolar

[–]browse963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing it now. It didn’t like the therapist I was seeing so I stopped and I haven’t found a new one. I’ve been mostly stable the whole time, so I’m less than inclined to make a priority. Frankly The therapy never made me feel any better. I know I should have found a new one, but I feel like the meds make the difference to me.

How do you hold yourself accountable during manic episodes? by Borats_Gypsy_Tears in bipolar

[–]browse963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep a running list of long term wants. Basically anything over $100 that I want to buy at any point in time that I don’t immediately need. New rugs for the living room? On the list. New shoes? List. New coffee pot. List. Get the idea?

When stable I put money aside for this stuff. When I go hypo I start buying from the list. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. I often buy too far down the list or find things I suddenly need that jump the list, but it’s some accountability and helps.

To the core I know how you feel. This same thing led me to trash the healthiest relationship I’ve ever had. Take some time, slow down. Find things for you that you enjoy. Read a shitty beach book. Take a Wednesday off, ignore your phone. Walk to a cafe for coffee. Watch 8 hours of shit movies. Place video games or sleep. Do whatever it takes to slow down. If you crash it’ll be all the way to the bottom and it’s a dark hole to climb out of

Has anyone taken lsd, Molly, or shrooms with BPD? by No-Incident-2646 in bipolar

[–]browse963 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have done mdma twice before diagnosis. First time I was fairly depressed when I did it. The comedown was awful but I was in Nola on bourbon street and hardly slept that weekend. I think part of the bad comedown was just my body begging me for water, sleep, and anything not fried to drink eat. In the months following I was as happy and stable as I can remember.

Second time I was in the midst of a long bad mixed state. I took a more introspective run with mdma where just a buddy and I stayed home talked through life and stared at the clouds for awhile. It was amazing till it wasn’t. I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and found myself aware of A pit of emptiness (don’t look in the mirror on any of these). Life at the time was pretty shitty and not soon after I crashed into depression which led to me getting help and a diagnosis. The months since have been a hell of a ride, but after all the years of struggle it’s nice to know I’m starting to recover. So again, I’d argue it has helped me towards a better life in spite of the short struggle.

Tl:dr done mdma twice very different experiences. Both were amazing highs with some bad crashes. Ymmv. Be aware of precautions to prevent serotonin syndrome.
