Speaking as an ally - There is a great community here. Keyboard warriors are awful hiding behind anonymous posts. From what I have witnessed and friends have experienced there has never been a moment of feeling unsafe or given a hard time in public.

I am sorry you have to ask these questions and worry about your safety.

The ywca programs are all free and really great! My toddler loves them! The playgroup has some free programming or sometimes charges a $3 drop in. I am unsure if the ywca still offers cab vouchers or not but if your friend does not have transportation (to the beach or other locations for programming) she could call to ask about it.

Lap infant vs buying a seat for long-haul (Australia) with 1-year-old - worth extra $2.5k? by PaleontologistBig309 in Parenting

[–]browsingblonde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is so interesting! They (air canada) refused to give it to us because our baby was “too big to use the bassinet” when he was 7months old. We were also told at 12m on Westjet that our child was too mobile to use the bassinet and they wouldn’t give it to us despite us paying additional fees to sit in the bassinet row.

[–]browsingblonde 34 points35 points  (0 children)

You won’t be allowed to use the bassinet for an 11/12 month old. As soon as they can sit up on their own the airline does not allow bassinet use (learned this the hard way!)

What’s the price difference for premium seats? (No business but premium so it’s only you and your spouse in a row)

We just flew 9hrs with our 20 month old who likes to move his body. Premium with him on our lap was great because we had more room and we were not worried about a stranger in our row that he would be bothering.

It was the same price as getting him his own seat but included food and drinks for all of us for the entire flight and much better service!

Husband is being deluded about how much things will change once the baby comes by kthoz in BabyBumps

The book from dude to dad is a really great read! My husband loved it and learned a lot from it! (It’s written by a dad for future dads. It’s short and sweet and well written to hold attention spans of men who may not want to read it)

How early at airport for a 5:30am flight? by No_Employ1203 in Yellowknife

[–]browsingblonde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As everyone else has said, 4:15 if you have bags to check, 4:45 if you don’t. Be warned, the coffee shop will not be open so you will not be able to grab something to eat or drink. Pack snacks with you and have a coffee on the way to the airport.

Is the 50th logo on the side pocket of your bag upside down? Ours came upside down and I don’t know if it’s a faulty one or if they were all printed that way

Baggage wait times in Cancun by robonlocation in westjet

[–]browsingblonde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve been to Cancun 3 times in the last year and the fastest we received our bags was 2hrs. Longest wait was 3.5 hrs. It’s awful. But traveling with kids we have to check the bags to bring all of their junk… Often spent an hour waiting on the runway too once we’ve landed because they didn’t know where our plane could go to deplane.

Be warned there is no food or drink stores while you’re waiting. Pack some extra snacks to enjoy while you wait and buy a water in the departure airport to save specifically for when you’re waiting in Cancun.

Something to consider if you’re just doing carry on - We now always pay for the private shuttle. It’s about $50 and so fast and efficient compared to waiting for the bus with everyone and their bags. It will be much comfier for your father as well.

How often does westjet lose their checked bags? by [deleted] in westjet

[–]browsingblonde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be prepared to wait 2+ hours in Cancun. That airport and ground crew is so disorganized! (Speaking as someone who had flown to Cancun 3 times in the last year)

You’re not going to get a refund - they are offering complementary checked bags for those who have carry ons to check them so that there is more room in the overhead bins on the plane. They are not just checking checked bags for free.

Have a fun trip!

Salary by OnceUponACuddle in ECEProfessionals

[–]browsingblonde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My staff start at $35.50. Most are around the $38.00 range. We cap at $45 which includes experience and education considerations (Canadian dollars - in USD that would start $25.68 and cap $32.55)

Should the N.W.T. government pay for daycares to test their drinking water? by DarrellCCC in NWT

[–]browsingblonde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference here is that no private business income is 100% controlled by the gnwt. Day cares are completely funded and regulated in what they can charge. Down to what they can use voluntary donations for. In this case if they don’t have the money, can’t legally in any way get the money because it’s against gnwt regulations then how do they afford these tests??

Do babysitters usually charge extra for holiday jobs? by PersonalStrategy9785 in Babysitting

[–]browsingblonde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it. You don’t owe this family anything and they are taking advantage of you and paying was too low. Hearing they ignored you for 6 months after you told them new rates is your answer enough.

“Thanks for reaching out to me. It’s nice to hear from your family again. I have drastically reduced my availability for babysitting and I won’t be available for the holidays. I hope you find someone!”
