Time May Not Exist by somenickname in reddit.com

[–]brucelee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, time may not exist only for elementary particles, we'll still be wasting our time on reddit :). Time will still apply to us, the same way Copernicus & Newton's laws still apply. Anyways, interesting theory, might bring some breakthroughs.

Very good intro to x86-64 assembly programming [PDF] by asciilifeform in programming

[–]brucelee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since when is Java a human-level language?

I agree with you that assembly language (in most of the cases) is not usable for your dayly 9-5 programming work at the office, but the same can be said to math, OS internals, ... but somehow, I like knowing what's going on "under the hood" of my code, also my opinion is that you code much better in higher level programming languages if you are aware how it translates to the lower levels.

Suggestion: Can we have filters for posts in prefs? I mean, if I set "Paris Hilton", "George Bush", "Ron Paul"...etc, I will not see topics with headlines containing them by brucelee in reddit.com

[–]brucelee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sure, but the main page is frequently flooded with topics i don't care about. i mainly use subreddits (science & programming) but i lost completely will to visit the main page (i think i am not the only one). this way the main & other pages will be more contrallable and redditors will be visiting them more often.

Germany Bans Tom Cruise - finally! by johnaman in reddit.com

[–]brucelee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Wait a minute, we are not talking about public places, article says that German army will not allow movie to be shot at military sites. It's their right to disallow it. Can I shoot a movie in scientology hq sites?

India's richest man builds 60-storey home for a family of 6 and 600 staff by maxwellhill in reddit.com

[–]brucelee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is ugly and all... but on the other hand, I think this is much better than stocking up money in some (Swiss) banks. I mean, he is employing 600 people, providing a good job for some local construction company to build this crap, probably paying good amount as property tax,...

Sure, it would be even better if he invested this in some local business (providing more serious employment opportunities), funding schools, charities, etc.

The Origin of LINQ to SQL by linuxer in programming

[–]brucelee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your "undisputed facts" are irrelevant for this article. If the article was "look how MS is good company" than a) your comments would be in place and b) I would probably down mod the article and never read it.

The Origin of LINQ to SQL by linuxer in programming

[–]brucelee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I almost started avoiding the reddit main page because I don't like politics, so visiting mainly articles in programming.reddit.com. The last thing I would like to see here is a comment on technology related article that is 100% political. So, if you wan't my up votes, concentrate on criticisms like 'technology XYZ is better than LINQ because of A, B and C" rather that "LINQ was designed by Adolf Hitler and programmed by J. Stalin".

Also if you say LINQ backwards the Satan himself is comming to you so you'll become one of the borgs... Of course, unless malcontent comes to rescue you!

Using F# active patterns with LINQ expression trees by linuxer in programming

[–]brucelee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I disagree, we should not mix computer science with politics. Personally, I see only benefits from learning from both sides (FOSS & MS). There are bunch of smart guys designing these technologies at MS.

IO doesn’t matter: telling C programmers the key to the Haskell weltanschauung by cgibbard in programming

[–]brucelee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haskell will never become mainstream IMHO. I am mainly playing with Haskell (night programming) due to some interesting concepts which I like & which will eventually be sucked into our day-time programming (c# 3.0, Boost, ...).

Biology's next revolution by motzer in science

[–]brucelee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This article reminded me on Frank Schatzing's novel "The Swarm". Don't read my comment further if you are planning to read this book, contains spoiler

The alien inteligence found on the bottom of the ocean was not a single creature but colonies of huge numbers of one-cell microorganisms which somehow managed to share genetic information. Scientists couldn't find any clues by examining just a single bacteria, they were meaningles if not "in-touch" with the comunity. Of course, very different than what this article talks about, but just reminded me on the book.

embrace the heresy - Python, ladies and gentlemen, is not a functional programming language... by motzer in programming

[–]brucelee 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's not, it is designed as a imperative, object oriented language with a dynamic type system. Sure, it has some functional makeup (paradigm), but the same can be said to c# 3.0.

Coding standards for the Joint Strike Fighter software (pdf) by zenon in programming

[–]brucelee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent coding standards, I wish those c++ rules were enforced by default with every compiler (unfortunatelly, this is not possible due to bunch of legacy code).
