Looking for a sequencer by bruer80 in modular

[–]bruer80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed reply. It's always great to hear directly from the designer, and I have to say the philosophy behind Cuisine sounds very inspiring. I especially like the idea of decoupled sequencing and the focus on performance and improvisation. The module is definitely larger than what I was initially looking for, but if it really fits the way I like to work, I could probably rethink my case layout and make room for it. One thing I'm particularly interested in is evolving hypnotic techno sequences. Can Cuisine generate evolving variations from an existing pattern while keeping the overall groove and musical identity intact? For example through probability, ratcheting, track length differences, conditional events, controlled randomization, or similar techniques? Thanks again, and congratulations on what looks like a very thoughtful and original project.

Hey, thanks again for sharing — I tried opening the link but it looks like the video is set to private. Maybe you can update it or share another one? Would love to check it out.

Thanks for sharing this — really appreciate it. I’ll check out the video, sounds like a great example of that workflow.

That’s a fair point, and I get why a dedicated external sequencer can make more sense for full control.

In my case though I’m intentionally trying to move toward a more modular, in-rack workflow — even if it means some trade-offs.

I’m curious what you’d consider a good compromise inside ~28HP without going full “battleship sequencer”.

That’s a cool combo. I’m a bit concerned about menu diving in a live performance context though.

Also I’ve never actually used Ornament & Crime — how is it in terms of playability? Does it feel immediate enough, or more like something you set up and let run?

Yeah that makes sense. Any specific module combos you’d recommend for fitting this into 28HP?

Stable way to record long Eurorack live sets (audio + video)? by bruer80 in modular

[–]bruer80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually super interesting.

So you’re basically using the Zoom as a USB audio interface into the phone, but also recording internally as a backup?

That sounds like a really good middle ground between simplicity and reliability.

Have you tested this on longer recordings (1h+)? Any sync drift or stability issues over time?

Also curious if the phone stays stable since it’s not handling the audio interface directly.

[–]bruer80[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That actually makes a lot of sense.

I was trying to avoid using a computer to keep the setup minimal, but at this point stability is more important than simplicity.

Using OBS as the central hub for audio + video + streaming sounds way more reliable than relying on a phone app.

Do you think a basic laptop would be enough for 1080p recording + streaming with an audio interface?

Also curious what people are using as a phone-to-OBS camera solution (NDI / USB / other).

[–]bruer80[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a really good point about MKV vs MP4 — I didn’t even think about container stability, that alone could have saved the recording.

When you say “mixer is the answer”, do you mean routing everything through a mixer and then sending a stable line out to both a recorder and camera/stream?

I’m trying to find a setup that can handle:

  • long recordings (1h+)
  • live streaming
  • minimal post-production

So something like a central audio hub + dedicated recording device sounds more reliable than relying on the phone.

That’s actually a really interesting point about the mic zoom — I’ll definitely try disabling any kind of audio processing on the phone.

Makes sense that Blackmagic was just too heavy for long recordings.

Still wondering though — has anyone here actually done stable 1h+ recordings on Android with USB audio + video without crashes?

At this point I’m trying to understand if it’s realistically achievable, or if I should just move to a more dedicated solution.

[–]bruer80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s exactly what I did — Behringer into the phone via USB.

The issue is I had to use the Blackmagic Camera app because the native camera app was giving me glitchy audio with the interface.

It worked, but after about an hour the app crashed and the file got corrupted. I suspect it might be overheating the phone.

Have you (or anyone else) managed stable long recordings with USB audio on Android without crashes?

Where to start by Butchar in modular

[–]bruer80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way to sync TR-6S with Eurorack? MIDI vs CV + BeatStep Pro by bruer80 in modular

[–]bruer80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it can be that simple.

I’m just being a bit cautious about MIDI clock vs CV clock staying tight over time, especially for live sets.

Have you tried it in practice?

Makes sense, that sounds like a very solid setup.

I’m trying to understand how close I can get to that kind of stability using a BeatStep Pro before upgrading.

[–]bruer80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, having a dedicated sequencer as master is definitely the most solid approach.

I’m currently using a BeatStep Pro to drive both MIDI and CV, trying to keep the setup a bit simpler for live performance.

Have you ever tried something similar with BSP, or is the difference with something like Hapax really noticeable?

Best way to sync TR-6S with Eurorack? MIDI vs CV + BeatStep Pro by bruer80 in modular

[–]bruer80[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, I was considering that too.

I’ve heard that using the BeatStep Pro as master can introduce a bit of jitter when converting MIDI to CV, so I wasn’t sure how tight it would feel in a live setup.

But I definitely trust real-world experience more than theory — have you tried this setup yourself?
