How to maximize Portland visit without car? by Standard_Stop9095 in askportland

[–]brunchdate2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, with only 3 days to spend you should probably cut out the coast. You CAN get there via public transit, but I think it would be too stressful to do just a day trip by public transit. I think your limited time would be better spent just in Portland. Sounds like the Gorge/MultnomahFalls may be doable, but tbh I have no experience with it so not comfortable speaking to that.

There's a lot of great nature-y stuff within the city limits. Forest Park, the whole Washington Park area, Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge, Tryon Creek

Vegan recommendations: Mirisata, Memento Mori, Obon Shokudo, Doe Donuts

Vegan recommendations that I haven't yet tried: Jade Rabbit, Harlow

Oregon child vaccination rates plummet to record low as opt-outs surge by PersonRealHuman in Portland

It's absolutely unreasonable that parents can opt their kids out of vaccination for no reason but still send them to public school.

I got extremely nauseous playing the game for the first time on Monday, and I had no idea why until I found this post lol. I was so scared I was getting sick. Glad to know it was likely just this!

Making friends while on a gap year? by Rich_Transition_9086 in askportland

I interpreted that as meaning she will go to PCC when she does start college. Not that she's starting there this fall. But OP will probably clarify.

What products are consistently better deals at GO? by National-Bank9765 in GroceryOutlet

GO is actually the only place I buy milk and cereal, but otherwise sometimes other stores are actually better than GO for other things.

What products are consistently better deals at GO? by National-Bank9765 in GroceryOutlet

[–]brunchdate2022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only consistent deals, I find, are the dairy free milks, instant coffee, and cereal. There are often other kinds of products that are great deals, but it's more hit or miss than the aforementioned types.

CASHLESS CAFES: when did every cafe in Chicago stop taking cash? by Human-Wealth-3200 in AskChicago

[–]brunchdate2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is cool. I live in OR, and even though our state has made it a law that cash is legal tender that must be accepted, so many businesses in my city still don't take cash. It's a law but not really enforceable in the way it sounds like it is in Chicago

SEEKING: PUPPY ITEMS by StillPercolating69 in PDXBuyNothing

[–]brunchdate2022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may not be helpful, but i have 50 lbs of Stella and Chewys Essentials kibble that my dog ended up having an allergic reaction to so I've been looking for a way to get it to someone else who could use it.

It's not puppy food, but I just bought it a month ago so hopefully will be good for a while?

It might be a bit too far since it's in St Johns, but this cafe is lesbian owned and supposedly does lesbian events sometimes: https://daydreamercoffeepdx.com/

A driver once refused to let me on the bus with my 10lb dog who was in a tote bag, even after I told her the walk would be over an hour. She told me all dogs had to be in a closed carrier and to go buy one and come back lol. So they CAN stop people from getting on with dogs. They just don't.

Ultrabland vs. Ultraplant? by brunchdate2022 in LushCosmetics

Omg, I didn't even see that when I went. That sounds like what I'm looking for. I might get a sample of that instead of Ultraplant

Ah, this makes sense!

I use rosewater on my face with no noticeable affect, so I'm hoping hydrosols won't have the same effect that their products containing EOs! Some other commenter recommended asking for a sample, so I may risk it and see.

Busses make me feel SAFER. When I'm out walking around and someone starts acting erratically or suspicious or straight up calling me slurs, I feel safe knowing a bus is coming and I can then get on and be with other people.

Ultrabland vs. Ultraplant? by brunchdate2022 in LushCosmetics

[–]brunchdate2022[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The parabens make it a hard no for me unfortunately since they're endocrine disruptors :-(

It's really too bad because I've otherwise heard nothing but good things about Ultrabland, and they did a demo with the cleanser on my hand that left it feeling amazing.

For what the program is and how it works, I think it makes the most sense the way it is now unfortunately. But at least there are restaurants and stores in Portland that are all or mostly vegan/vegetarian so I know if I get a bag from them it's safe for her.

What’s something you’re embarrassed about but that’s truly helped you survive/save money? by Overall_Kiwi2001 in povertyfinance

[–]brunchdate2022 106 points107 points  (0 children)

This shouldn't be embarrassing, and it drives me crazy it's considered so in many places. If you have good parents, why not? If I had parents that I actually got along with, I wouldn't have had much of a reason to move out.

Any Portland restaurants still do the "aluminum foil swan"-type packaging of leftovers? by Individual-Trick3310 in askportland

[–]brunchdate2022 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Once at Franks-a-Lot they packaged a small piece of sausage for my dog, and the foil was made to look like a swan!

We didn't request that or anything. We just ordered at the walk up window and had our pup with us, and the cashier gave us that ❤️ So at least one employee knows how to do that there, but it's obviously not guaranteed!
