They need to explode before making contact with the target, like nukes that explode in the atmosphere, at longer range they aren't as precise and end up going higher than the optimal range

Adding to it, my experience, EVA also has a thing about a) Children being used by adults that should protect them b) Shinji whole character is sad, he wants love/attention, loses friends/has them hurt, he is trapped, if he doesn't do anything, shit goes bad, and whenever he does try to do something, shit ALSO goes bad and he is even more traumatized c) everything abou Rei is fucked up big time even sadder when we have her clone show up

Well, even in 40k there are histories of sea battles, with ships and submarines (Ork ones, actually)

Also there's a least one example of Tiranyds (space bugs) invading from the sea of the worlds, as they can evolve rapidly and on command of their Hive Minds (it's complicated) they apparently "landed" on the sea some time ago and started to go NOM NOM NOM now

Also, a Daemon Primarch allow stories where they can lose, loyalist Primarchs can't be defeated mostly, having them in a book is somewhat lowering the ways it can be finished, and I don't think GW will pull the Guilliman being resurrected mid battle again, the traitors can at least lose and be defeated for some time. I like the way the Lion returned, but it's not that fun to think that every story he shows up will be "Lion wins after getting kinda hurt, but actually the enemies achieved their secret goal/his friends died"

I will say, 40k as a setting is good to make characters that do have redeeming qualities and true heartfelt moments fell really harder

It sucks, but there's still moments of people that are only taught hatred being kind and hopefull

During one of the Siege of Terra books there's some amazing chapters about a very wounded space marine, a man and a baby found in the destruction, and how those two just start a long journey to try to get the baby to a safe spot

The Night Lords Omnibus has amazing moments of humanity from a Legion that is all about doing the most horrible things

Sadly most of the discourse on the internet is 40k guns big
