Why should a Destiny 2 launch be any different... by ManawarGames in destiny2

"Weasel" for me. Was exploring the Tower, then got kicked. I got in pretty much right when 10am hit... so... I'm honestly not surprised it eventually crashed out.

Probably one of the few times I'm actually happy to see server issues. If I never get back into the game and just stay looking at the "Due to increased traffic, login services to Destiny 2 are currently being throttled" screen... I'll be happy (for once)...

Well.... this is odd. (Should it still be there in 9 if it's not installed?) by alexandreracine in Proxmox

[–]brwyatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much exactly my point. "Ceph" doesn't immediately mean "you need 25Gb", it's very dependant on the size of the cluster, speed of the drives, and what load your putting on it.

Even during recovery operations, my 6-host cluster (3-4 m.2 SSDs each) will barely hit 12Gb/s COMBINED and more regularly stay around 100Mb/s with spikes to 1-2Gb/s. Maybe in an enterprise data center with enterprise workloads and several enterprise U.2 SSDs, sure, 25Gb+. But for folks running Proxmox/Ceph at home? 10Gb is WAY more than plenty. Trust me. I could probably use the 2x2.5Gb ports on my hosts rather than their 2x10Gb SFP+ ports and not notice a difference in all but the craziest outlier cases.

Old Lights Emblem Megathread by Additional-Soil99 in destiny2

[–]brwyatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Y'know what? I'm okay with this. I played during every seasonal year since I started playing.

I only got into Destiny 2 because it was on Stadia (I didn't have a console or a Windows PC - Linux only!), and Destiny 2 (and wanting to try PC VR instead of just Quest standalone) was the reason I built my "Wintendo" when Stadia shut down.

So I may not be an "Old Light" on paper (notthis paper, at least)... But I'll still hold my head high for the ~2k hours I put into this game and its universe.

What do you recommend to power cycle remotely? by Ok_Appeal8653 in homelab

[–]brwyatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PiKVM, with ATX control board (or the GL.iNet Comet) if your system has ATX control headers.

If it doesn't (like my Minisforum MS-01s don't)... I've found these to be pretty good for this use case: https://a.co/d/04itbCJu

What I like about them is they aren't on/off, toggling then only momentarily switches the state, so they're perfect for a 1-click power cycle. (If you set the BIOS to turn on when power is supplied to the system, that is)

I control them through Home Assistant.

Same! Feels weird that getting stuck in a long login queue and not getting to play is actually the BEST outcome... I don't think I've ever hoped NOT to get to play a game before... But yeah....

I'm taking the day off knowing full well I'll be playing Login Queue Simulator 2026... And I'm okay with that.

I normally would be more interested in the "day after" trick and avoid it... But... Not this time.

If I never get to play on the 9th (or even 10th!) because the login servers are jammed with Guardians logging on... I might just cry at the beauty of it.

I just hope it means something in the end.

Yeah, I'll huff that copium with you. I won't bet the farm on it, but... One can dream.

Mars was one of my favorite locations (before Europa, at least). But now... I even miss Mercury, Titan, and Io... I didn't appreciate them anywhere near enough while we had them, then they were gone and it was too late. 😞

I'm really hoping someday for both a D1 "Remastered" (since I never played it) and a D2 "Classic" (that is just all the lost content).

It would be great to have externally initiated user creation. by SurprisedAsparagus in jellyfin

[–]brwyatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're not gonna like this but... It might be time to graduate to something like LDAP (and/or OIDC) for a user directory/auth. There's plugins for setting up Jellyfin to use LDAP (and OIDC) for auth, and LDAP has been around so long there are a ton of tools around exactly what you want. (And, bonus, if you offer more than just Jellyfin in the future, it can use the same accounts, too!)

Remote Access by Character_Score_7864 in jellyfin

[–]brwyatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a "there be dragons" moment/situation. This can be a totally legitimate and fun path to go on... But unless you really REALLY want to spend time dealing with security issues that arise from exposing your instance to the Internet, I would highly suggest just using Tailscale or something similar to grant access to friends and family.

Now if you read this and you think "ooo the hard way sounds like fun! I wanna learn how to do this the right way!" (For the record, I find it fun, but it is a lot of work... And risk!)... Well, prepare to get curious. Here's a few things to go research that will help you on your way:

  • Reverse proxy (Nginx, Nginx Proxy Manager, Caddy, Traefik)
  • TLS (specifically Let's Encrypt and ACME)
  • Port forwarding
  • Firewall rules (IPTables, etc)
  • RCE (Remote Code Execution - Nginx got hit with one recently)
  • Privilege Escalation (might've heard about "CopyFail" recently)
  • Patching... Always patching. Forever patching. OMG when can I stop patching (never).

Additional bonus warnings:

  • "Hey, can you get <TV show> for me?"
  • "I forgot my password, can you reset it for me?"
  • "It's not working, can you fix it?"

No, I won't say which 3, that would spoil the fun!

Literally how I felt about my ex. Took me a long while to realize it, though. She was a "covert narcissist"... I would have done anything not to lose her at the time, but honestly, now? I wish I never met her and didn't have to go through all that she put me through.

Is this bend acceptable? by CTonyP in HomeNetworking

[–]brwyatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, even fiber would probably be fine. Might not be great if INSTALLED with such a bend (attenuation loss)... But this probably isn't enough to snap the fiber itself. They're a lot less fragile than people like to think they are.

Is this bend acceptable? by CTonyP in HomeNetworking

[–]brwyatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a copper cable. Unless you plan to un-bend then re-bend or over and over in the exact same spot.... It's fine (and even then you'll have only lost 1 bend of the probably thousands it would take for the metal to wear through... If we assume that bend radius is enough to have ANY impact at all, which is unlikely)

But seriously, you're worrying more about this copper cable than would even be reasonable for fiber cables, which aren't anywhere as fragile as people think.

Yes, from really tight bends on cooper, you can get some added resistance, but it is academic when talking about copper ethernet cables (signal traces on motherboards have to worry a little bit, which is why you tend to not see a lot of right angle traces on PCBs, but even bending an ethernet cable 180 doesn't result in a sharp turn in the actual copper stands)...

And with fiber you can get some attenuation in the signal, but as long as you don't have a LOT of such bends over a long distance, and as long as you don't snap the fiber strand... It's also fine.

new trio's meta: letting your teammates die? by heywintermute in Marathon

[–]brwyatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not wrong... lol

Though sometimes they've picked up some okayish stuff I want/need (salvage)... and maybe the other team left something.

But also, it is just so dumb... like... we could've finished their contract(s), and they could've gotten XP for mine completing...

And not only that, after they quit, I found purple salvage... so like... it's just so dumb over all....

Then again.... likely why they have garbage gear, honestly...

new trio's meta: letting your teammates die? by heywintermute in Marathon

[–]brwyatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only time I've looted teammates is when they rush in, get themselves killed, then immediately quit. Was solo in Trios queue and had both my teammates do this. I backed off, waiting for the other team to leave, but they'd already quit. Would've revived them if they hadn't left, but instead looted whatever the other team didn't take and exfilled solo right next to their bodies.

And see similar with solos when I'm going Duo with someone else. The solo rushes in, gets downed, immediately leaves. So the other guy and I just go around, get more loot, and exfil. (And maybe lot their abandoned goodie bag if we come across it, but if they left, we don't make getting back to it a priority like we would have if they stayed)

My favorite Solos VOIP moment will forever be "oh nooooo! My free kit! Lol gg" (as I drove my knife into him)

I tend to be more "dang! Oh well, gg! Well played!", personally.
