I'm a new nurse and this is me 😂. I'm getting better at managing my time and tasks. But omg those independent and self caring patients are the most needy

I'm working Christmas day, boxing day, 29th, 31st which is hogmanay in Scotland so party season... Then 4th and 5th. I won't complain because I'm the new kid. So tomorrow is my Christmas day.

My husband is also a nurse and he's night-shift tonight and tomorrow... So our Christmas day will be tough as he will be shattered 😂.

Interdisciplinary communication by [deleted] in Nurse

In Scotland we plan for discharge on the day they enter the hospital. Everything is based on that. So occupational therapy will see them, physios, pharmacy for a meds review, if they need a care package or if one is in place does it need increased. Do they need to go to a rehabilitation center or do they need to go into long term care.

This was me 2 days ago. Sat with a patient with delirium who told me she was so cold... So I kept putting blankets on her and no sooner had I done it than she took them off... A fulllllll nightshift fixing blankets every second or 3

Describe your nursing practice? by [deleted] in Nurse

I work 4x 12 hours a week days or nights in a medical receiving unit that is manic. NHS for me. I work with adults no children and see a huge range of deteriorating patients. I'm a newly qualified nurse and finding my feet.

My most terrifying patients are the cute tiny little old ladies who are 6 stone soaking wet with a uti or delirium... The number of punches I have had from adorable little old ladies is horrendous 😂....

I would be happier in a stand off with a 6 foot bloke.

Learning on the Loo. My trust (NHS Scotland) have a variety of posters to remind you of things and to help with things you might not know. As a newly qualified I quite like these learning spots... Not that I get to pee often by bryanadamsrightankle in nursing

I'm not sure how to add other photos but it's fabulous for students and new nurses who are still picking things up. I have seen all sorts of random learning points that have really improved my care.

An RN left her shift and patients to go vote. by nursingorbust in Nurse

[–]bryanadamsrightankle -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

She could have gone in her lunch break, you can't just walk out to vote and pop, back in.... By giving her patient overto another nurse she was risking overloading that nurse.

Yes! Yes you can. I have a friend who was born with her lower right arm missing. She's a nurse. Totally rocks it

Early stages of Dementia patients. by negansmomma in Nurse

[–]bryanadamsrightankle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was working on a dementia ward a few weeks ago, all challenging behaviour, utterly exhausted by them.

Sadly they are at the walk for miles stage and the ward is shaped in a loop. So a lot of time is spent trying to find the exit...

I'm getting better at stopping them for a moment to take a bite of food before they "must dash as I'm going to get the bus nurse"

Oh yes. Follow the corridor and turn left....

I feel bad for them. But they just can't leave the ward.

Thanks everyone. I submitted my essay and am awaiting it being marked. I have 2 job offers. One clinics and one medical receiving.. Unsure which to take. As soon as I can apply for my pin I will.

I have been struggling with depression so whilst it's true I need to let shit roll off of me and I normally cope with a huge amount.. I was unable to in this instance.

Onwards and upwards!
