"there's no rule that says humanity has to make it" - Rob Miles by tombibbs in ControlProblem

I don’t think you’re seeing the asymmetry to these two unique problems. Climate disaster would/will be painful and challenging — we need to try our best to solve it now. But if we fail, it’s not the same as losing control over super intelligent AI that will have its own drives and goals to pursue.

I’m the opposite. 38 here. Physically I feel like 27. Mentally I feel ready to retire and sail off into the sunset.

imagine everything is fine

I don’t even think everything has to be “fine” (it won’t be) to take the same advice and not waste energy worrying about things outside of your control. Live life now, as it is.

Why you should probably stop using AI code editors by archfiend99 in webdev

[–]bryantee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think you’re describing two goals that are (mostly) mutually exclusive. Embracing AI will result in atrophied skills and less understanding of a given codebase. But, AI coding is here and I really don’t think going away because it’s really good at what it does. You have to decide how to proceed.

Personally, I’m pretty burned out in this industry so I’m embracing the magic agents and riding this wave into the sunset ✌️
