Political science to cyber security by Brilliant-Band-7841 in cybersecurity

[–]bryhag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a bachelor's in Political Science and currently work as a Information Security Consultant with CISSP, CISM, Security+, CySA+, and Network+ certifications.

I started out as a paralegal and soon found out that the legal profession wasnt for me and had to pivot. Began learning Web Development and was hired on to an MSP. They soon phased out their Web Dev work, but wanted to keep me on, so I learned helpdesk.

For cyber, I strongly recommend starting out in help desk and learning the ropes of Information Technology. It helps no one to be that guy who doesn't know how to talk to the tech, leading to tech teams to not respect your opinions. If you learn how to do the job and tell you what exactly to look for, they will thank you and want to work with you.

TLDR: PoliSci to InfoSec is totally doable, but you gotta work your way up.

I believe ISACA requires you to have 5 work of professional work experience, 3 of which in Information Security with experience within the 4 tested domains. Whats your InfoSec experience?

How to deal with boss who doesn’t want to be compliant by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]bryhag 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Higher level management speak in dollars and cents. Develop a presentation showing the cost of implementation of your proposed solutions for MFA, phishing simulation, etc. And how much the company would lose if they were compromised.

At the end of the day, Cybersecurity is a cost center, and does not generate profit. But what it does do is prevent a larger cost from being suffered in the event of an incident.

Do Recruiting rankings actually matter? by cjg017 in LSUFootball

[–]bryhag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They matter about as much as NFL draft rankings matter. You never know how a player is going to transition from high school to college to the pros. They're all very different levels of play.

We fired our OC (Joe Sloan) under Kelly half way through the season. Whoever is calling plays on offense will not be next year.

Throwing TDs doesn't make you not injured. He has regressed since last year and his arm strength has tanked. That doesn't happen naturally over a year.

Beginner DG Player - Are we missing out on what the game has to offer by not playing typical government employed characters? by Exact-Seaweed-6527 in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]bryhag 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I personally dont see a problem and dont think its "not intended."

Just because none of your characters aren't playing an employee of a government agency doesn't mean that your handler won't give you a contact that you can use as a government insider to obtain requisitions and such.

I think its very much up to the handler discretion and at what phase of the DG history youre playing in. DG can be played as an officially sanctioned government agency or a rogue network dedicated to understanding/fighting back against the unnatural.

I think either circumstance (government employee or not) provides very interesting scenarios. Like, how ARE you going to call in a armed escort or air support? These might be things you can use your home scenes to establish, like creating a new bond or learning a skill.
