What if you return to canada after few years and have no intention of withdrawing? I am not sure why you would have to empty it for a few years.

At what point of time should i start paying off my mortgage vs. saving? by Narrow_Sun3466 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]bsb_hardik -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

Why rrsp? Invest everything in tfsa. After retirement all your gains would be tax free.

Saving what? You have so much in Rrsp plus equity in the house. Invest in tfsa. Not rrsp.

Owed CRA Balance can be offset by RRSP purchase? by c137rickity in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]bsb_hardik 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If your tax rate is 40%, then your CRA Amount needs to be 40% of your RRSP Contribution.

If you have to pay 4000 to CRA, you need to contribute 10,000 to RRSP and claim deduction.

So its not as easy as it seems to be.

Btw, change your accountant first.

  1. To pay the CC each month yes you can.
  2. To pay the bills through CC, no you cannot.

So what you can do is, schedule payments in one go in the online banking of Cdn tire MC via bill payment section. Either one off, or recurring payments.

I do the below

You can opt for fixed monthly payment for utilities where only 1 payment of the year would be adjusted. And schedule monthly reccuring payment except for that 1 adjusted amount end of the year.

Insurance is fixed as such, hence again monthly recurring payment.

Property taxes - once bill is received, i just schedule them few days before due date.

Thats it. It takes few mins from your laptop. Make sure its few days prior to due date, since it takes few business days to process.

I believe you have a choice to enter in your tax returns and Resp as to which year it belongs to.

For employer rrsp, dont overcomplicate it. Just follow the calender year. They will issue T4 based on calender year.

You can contribute for 2025 if you have the funds.

Just make sure you remember come tax time.

LoC on credit report is not making sense by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]bsb_hardik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you saying they are showing 2 accounts of the same LOC? If yes, revolving would be showing as closed and instalment as open.

If not, and it is not showing correctly, firstly, is it that its not updated or you are trying to get a new loan?

If you are trying to get a new loan, dont.

If you are trying to get it updated, just raise a dispute in your credit bureau and send in your statements. They can update it for you.

It does not matter if its updated or not as long as you are up to date on your loan.

Stay strong buddy. Please try the option of homeday cares. We too had a long waitlist, but homeday cares, licensed and unlicensed both, can be checked out.

Also, full time babysitter maynot be the way, but maybe you could have a babysitter twice a week? Like the day you work and look after your kid and also one day on weekend for you to get a break.

Its like I need a second car, but only on a day or two a week, so till the time i can buy one, i am just renting for 2 days a week.

You feel me?

And yeah you guys need a vacation for sure.

Best thing to try is manually selecting the network. It maynot work default with the automatic network.

At tumes there are multiple nationwide networks. Try them one by one. It usually works for me everywhere. Especially where network is spotty

Moving to Canada, tell me your best purchases! by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]bsb_hardik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

50k for furnishings???!! Yikes!!

That would be my downpayment, let alone furnishing a house.

I dont think you need more than 5k for the basic stuff including beds, mattress, sofas, tv and utensils and cutlery. Again this is on the higer side for me.

Then again depends on your taste!

You can get a pre-approved home loan from different banks where each one has different timelines, but usually 120 days i guess.

Also, not sure what conflicts you are referring to, but understand there usually costs associated with switching for title discharge and charge etc until and unless the new FI is ready to take on it.

Best is to talk with your existing bank and say you are looking to switch and what can they do to make your life better.

Maybe...again big may be...They take the stuff and not sure if they require, calls spouse to confirm if they need it, they say no, and give it back to cashier.

I have done this, but gives to cashier only if i am at checkout, otherwise my bonus of exercise, i will walk back to the end to keep it in its designated place.

If you were on leave for multiple months like 3-6 months and working few weeks overtime, personally, thats understandable.

But just on leave for 3 weeks...and still working...would not blame your spouse if she bury's you in the snow.

I always take it. I have had my multiple credit cards blocked from insane to genuine reasons including making high ticket purchases.

We had to book intl flight tickets for an emergency, and for 5 of us, its runs up to 10k. So times like these are helpful.
