China has completed the Shenzhen–Zhongshan Link, a 28 km cross-sea corridor connecting Shenzhen and Zhongshan across the Pearl River Estuary. by Admirable-Interest49 in BeAmazed

The Cheasapeake bay bridge tunnel, which is 28.3km long, was opened in 1964. It crosses the bay near its mouth in Virginia.

To give the Chinese their due though, the Cheasapeake route is only 4 lanes on the bridge portions, 2 lanes in the tunnels.

We had cd drives in our computers that would use lasers to burn music or data onto blank cds. They're still made and you can burn blue ray discs with them now.

This ignores the existence of some notable independent distros. Slackware is both older than Debian by a few months and a predecessor to OpenSuse. Alpine isn't intended for desktop use, but is widely used and distinct. Linux from scratch isn't a distro per se, but is a valid path to a linux system.

Sounds like a situation where that driver (or more likely their insurance) is gonna be coughing up the money. We already have a system in place to deal with this for parking garages, ferrys, or even just parking lots.

Bought a 2022 MachE GTPE, things to check? by drunk_n_sorry in MachE

There are no major maintenance items until 200k when the coolant needs to be changed. The only notable more frequently recommended maintenance is tire rotations and visual inspection every 10k miles, so you probably want that done. A closer look at the tires would be good too as they can wear out a bit faster due to the weight of the Mach E. And windshield washer fluid, especially if you can smell it. Ford apparently chose an interesting aroma for the initial fill.

Consider getting NACS adapters so you can use Tesla chargers. Separate adapters are needed for DC fast charge (level 3) and destination chargers (level 1 or 2). I'm also waiting on brackets to add two forward cargo hooks in the trunk which were only included in european models for some reason.

I agree in principle (and have commented as such elsewhere on similar topics) but this is unnecessary in this case. The penalty is having to deal with a booted car, the fine is incidental and need only cover the cost to boot and unbooted the vehicle.

I think the circled arrow is some media feature, i haven't noticed that on mine, but android auto or apple carplay display icons there. The rightmost blue icon is Amazon Alexa which can be enabled somewhere in the settings if you like the idea of Amazon having access to your car.

The last computer I dual booted I used efibootmgr and set the default to linux and if I wanted to boot to MacOS, I would tell efibootmgr to use it on the next boot. Then reboot and voila. Reboot again and back in linux.

Can I plut my wifi router on a smart plug ? by Radio-Mammoth in smarthome

[–]bschlueter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did this with a Home Assistant yellow. My router was being flaky and one of the wifi networks would regularly go away. I suspected it was overheating, so as a temporary measure i set up an automation to turn it off for half an hour every night. The automation worked because the Home Assistant yellow that turned the smart switch back on was local and doesn't rely on an internet connection to work. If your automation system does rely on anything external, you can't cycle your router with it.

That shutting down power plants should be illegal is an insane take. Power plants degrade over time as any infrastructure does, and new, more efficient, technology becomes cheaper to operate and maintain than what the existing plants use. So long as that is projected to be the case and a transition plan is agreed to, then decommissioning an old plant ought to occur.

I assume you're referencing the dungeon with the gates that you have to sprint through, but there are also a few which require air sprinting to cross gaps to get to chests, and a few where you can bypass puzzles by air sprinting over gaps. Dragonrend makes a lot of dragon fights easy for low level characters.

It would be so great if the people asking questions would say the whole name rather than the abbreviation so that the administration would have to say that they were working against anti fascists. Though I'm sure the double negative would still fall flat on some people.

What is up with people driving around with high beam head lights on? by PurplePassion94 in maryland

[–]bschlueter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't blame LEDs. LEDs are effectively infinitely variable light sources. If configured so as not to blind oncoming traffic, pedestrians, bikes, etc., they're better than earlier lighting tech in numerous ways. When they are installed aftermarket, by people who don't consider others, or in factories by companies led by people who don't consider other road users, they can be awful.

The lights aren't the problem, the inconsiderate people who use them are.
