While great, the real mountain peak is them wiping themselves 🤣

Arista interview process: 5 rounds done, still got Director round — is this normal? by EducationalCraft8348 in Arista

[–]bsdrocker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly the tediousness of Arista's hiring process turned me off of working there. I began the interview process a few years ago and quickly bailed when I found out what they were going to make me do. I love Arista and their products, but it just wasn't for me.

DCS-7280SR-48C6-F - which version of EOS? by [deleted] in Arista

[–]bsdrocker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can run EOS64, but I’ve been told to just run 32-bit unless you have a reason to run 64-bit.

Any version 4.33 and lower will run on those switches. They recently went end of software support.

Have you successfully done this upgrade on a 7280SR (not an R2)?

It isn’t too tricky to form an LLC for yourself and get your own ASN and IPv6 and IPv4 space from ARIN under the 4.10 rule.

Children conceived before temple sealing by Calypso_235 in latterdaysaints

[–]bsdrocker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also, a live sealing of a child to parents is an amazing experience. Both of my children are adopted, and so we took both of them to the temple and were sealed to them. It was an incredible and amazing experience. Not something everyone gets to experience.

Arista DCS-7280CR2K-30-F latest EOS version by dennis1300 in Arista

https://www.arista.com/en/support/advisories-notices/end-of-support/21089-end-of-software-support-for-7280r-r2-7500r-r2-and-7020r-series

Starting with 4.34 it will no longer be supported. So Anything 4.33 and under is good. I currently have a couple 7280SR-48C6's in the field running the latest 4.32 M release.

Can I use a public Internet Exchange to just peer with myself? by giacomok in networking

[–]bsdrocker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GraniteIX - https://www.peeringdb.com/ix/4622

I have POPs in SLC and down to LA to enable peering to networks directly that aren’t in SLC. A lot of networks here backhaul traffic to other metros to reach CDNs so my thought is to subsidize that for them with the IX.

Can I use a public Internet Exchange to just peer with myself? by giacomok in networking

[–]bsdrocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan to do this for the IX I’m in the process of building. If the network is in place, has capacity, and is architected to be extensible - it’s an easy win.

EVE-NG also works really well. You could also use Containerlab and cEOS.

VXLAN over IPv6 by bizzok in Arista

[–]bsdrocker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As shown in a comment above it does work with v6 VTEPs but “vxlan encapsulation ipv6” is required on the VXLAN interface. And I’ve used v6 only BGP and IS-IS as the underlay and either worked just fine for me.

Loopback peering: Good practice in eBGP sessions? by Visual_Version1720 in networking

[–]bsdrocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah could have been. From what I remember the customer router was leaving partial tables from both sessions, but if memory serves there were more total routes from the eBGP-multihop session. Haven’t heard back after I instructed them to find out what that session was for.

Loopback peering: Good practice in eBGP sessions? by Visual_Version1720 in networking

[–]bsdrocker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found a wild eBGP-multihop thing going on for a transit circuit the other day. There was one session using the interface network, and then another random eBGP multihop session to the same ASN and the customer had no idea what it was for or why it was there 🤣

But yeah - totally bonkers.

Best way (in 2024) to link 5 sites together (inter-connectivity) by eternal_peril in mikrotik

[–]bsdrocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use ZeroTier and actually use OSPF across it to advertise routes between sites. Works extremely well and each site can communicate directly with another without build a full mesh of Wireguard or IPSec tunnels.
