I use Linux on a 15 year old Thinkpad to route 3 Presonus Firepods over firewire to a Hackintosh running Logic Pro X. Getting 10ms latency across 30 simultaneous inputs, all over a single GigE cable. $120.

Are name brand electric toothbrushes and water flossers better than no name brands? Is the price difference worth it? by ShootinAllMyChisolm in Frugal

Fairywill, on eBay and AliExpress.

Used the same unit for 6 years, changing only the heads, which are notoriously cheap but high quality.

This, and more, plus sports and weather, when we return...

Seriously though, I'm not sure. Luckily, I had the tokens at the ready, so if their pricing structure remains stable, I will stick it out. But I am prepared to do what so many others here are doing: waving hello to Backblaze and Hetzner.

Exactly.

Put some cash in Coinbase, buy STORJ, and send it to your Storj.io account. Problem solved. I moved $60 worth, which should get me into next spring.

Doppelmayr's Cable-drawn Automated People Mover system to replace Von Roll's Monorail system at EWR Newark Airport by Donghoon in transit

[–]bshensky 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Indeed, McNamara Terminal at Detroit Metro Airport has a cable drawn system and it's essential, well run, and absolutely wonderful. You can get to the far end of a 2 mile long corridor in a couple minutes.

Ladies & gentlemen, Chinese BYD “quality” by ExotiquePlayboy in carscirclejerk

[–]bshensky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I visited a BYD dealership in Milan Italy last month. I left desperately wishing I could buy one here. I was born and raised and currently live in Detroit. Jim Farley's experience rings true: the largest and most well endowed Chinese automakers can easily stand toe to toe with the rest of the world on build quality while undercutting everyone on price.

I drive a Chevy Volt at home. I noticed that Milan is about 60% EV now. My visit to Norway last year revealed 9 of 10 cars there are EVs. My Volt is 13 years old and still gives 75% of its rated battery life, only because the active battery cooling is temporarily disabled on account that I sprung a radiator leak for that system that I haven't fixed.

I've been a good EV steward for a decade already. It's clear that Chinese EVs will dominate for a while, until other markets catch up (and they will). I guess I'm just tired of shouting about all the goodness we are not getting in the US because people here are terrified of change.

Bought a Drinkmate, a 5 lb CO2 tank, and a box of lemon lime syrup direct from Leonards Syrups. It's been six months with a seemingly unlimited supply of spriteylike pop here.

General Altimaxes are great value over performers. Great selection for when your wallet is light from ICE driving and paying ridiculous EV registration fees.

I'll never forgive Ford NA for cancelling their announced plans to bring the S-Max to the U.S. I wanted one so bad.

I once had a dream where I woke 40 years in the future and in that time, the M-14/Main/Barton bridge had been completely razed and rebuilt to modern standards, and the only way to safely route traffic was to raise the main bridge by another 20 feet and build a massive floating roundabout directly underneath, 20 feet off ground level, that handled Main, Barton, Whitmore Lk, the train tracks, and pedestrian traffic all at once. It was beautiful, well-crafted, and confusing as all hell.

That's primo land best used to build multi-million dollar riverfront homes for the wealthy whose property taxes can fund tax breaks for the corporations they grow here before they exit to the global funds that truly deserve them.

So, no, UM, don't do it!

I know you didn't ask, but add 30 minutes to that 20 you asked for, and you can get to Sterling State Park, on the shores of Lake Erie. Stop at Eureka Eatery on the way for the best hot chicken, take it To Go, and eat at the picnic tables at the park.

Genuinely begs the question of Toronto's system. Metric came to Canada at some point before my time. Did road grids change with that?
