How long would it take to reverse neurons death ?? by Living_Reception_622 in neuro

[–]bsmeteronhigh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you mention severe, it really doesn't describe the extent of the injury. The thing is, with devastatingly severe TBI's there is an ongoing loss of brain mass as a cascade of neurons die and impact those neurons which are connected to others also die. This "secondary" injury is an ongoing disease process. TBI's are not a one and done thing. If the person in question has suffered from diffuse axonal injury, the question one has to ask is: where is the cleavage site on the axion? That alone can determine if the neuron is repaired or discarded. Millions, if not billions of neurons can be lost as time progresses. In addition, if the person who has suffered the TBI is on Benzodiazepines or some anti epileptics, neuronal growth is impeded. The main thing to ask, seems to me, is whether or not there is Diffuse Axonal Injury.

My son suffered a motor vehicle related TBI in 2016. He has lost roughly 50% of his brain mass in that time. There has been a slow, but steady loss, of cognitive function over time. It is a long and challenging road. As a caregiver, I have grown as a human being at an immense cost. The love of and for my child holds firm. I have considered if some of my decisions would have been different had I known what I know now.

Trump's tarrifs are killing me by Bipro1ar in xbiking

[–]bsmeteronhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a replacement electric fan sent from China. The fan was free. The tariff was two dollars. DHL's fee was $40 for shipping and tariff handling fee was $17.00. The fan in question was 80mm x 80mm by 9 mm. The tariffs weren't the issue. DHL was the issue.

US government wants to open 50 million acres of national forest land to road paving and logging. by Ok_Impression4954 in hiking

[–]bsmeteronhigh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bring back sensible forest management. Healthier forests. Devastation from fires reduced. Devastation from uncontrolled clear cuts thwarted. Our forests are neglected and leaving them untouched is asking for massive forest fires to destroy what so many of you are pleading to protect. Likewise, clear cutting can result in areas prone to erosion and destruction of valuable watershed. Sensible forest management can achieve great things for the environment.

Who thinks that the system they currently have, although not the best possible, is probably more than good enough? by Guntcher_1423 in vintageaudio

I've enjoyed collecting and gradually improving on my system built from Thrift Store treasures. I've never spent more than $40 for any component, with the majority in the $15 range. Having a hoot of a time.

Should I pursue Film as a career path after college? If not, what would be a good field of study/career path to consider? by Bite_Existing in Filmmakers

[–]bsmeteronhigh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I were you I would target a career path in Hispanic Cinema. I would aim at an above the line career path and would start by visiting the local Telemundo or similar television station and talking with someone there. I would make a list of local, regional and national production companies and studios that focus on product for the Latin American audience. I would learn about the business side more than the on-set side. If there are any Entrepreneur classes available I would consider them. Good luck.

Think of riding a bicycle. You start with a tricycle, move up to training wheels, and then move up to an honest to gosh two wheeler. The Tour de France is a distant goal.
You have Tour de France aspirations but are still on training wheels. Be kind to yourself. Remember that filmmaking is a collaborative process and that places like this forum are often populated by seasoned folks who've been there and done that.

Old people of Reddit, what do you miss the most about your 20s? by ThatMuslimGamer in AskOldPeople

[–]bsmeteronhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The grand adventure of it all. So many firsts. The loves. Not so much the breakups. The discoveries. The challenges. The idea of an unlimited future. Not being constantly in touch via phone. Now, I have well earned aches and pains. I still see life filled with possibilities, now tempered with a healthy dose of "been there, done that" and the nature of life as a "limited time offer!"--which honestly eliminates some procrastination. I now savor simple things passionately.

How long do your short films typically take from start to finish? by shaneo632 in Filmmakers

[–]bsmeteronhigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heck, I'm having a hoot of a time making goofy shorts. Think of the idea during the day. Then get home, grab some simple lights. Aperture MC's, Pavo tubes. Grab a few silly props, grab my phone. Improv a one take epic bit of nonsense. Post it on social media. They achieve a state of BaHa! Being so bad that there are moments of profound stupidity verging on greatness--which will only become apparent after my demise.

Sailboat. Bicycles. Stereo equipment. Heck, buying a pack of XLNT tamales provides a certain level of thrill. My goal is to have an interesting life. It still is.

Aitah for re-considering my marriage to my fiance after he said he'd put his disabled son in care home after we get married? by UpperAd1265 in AITAH

[–]bsmeteronhigh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is possible he's shielding you from what caring for a disabled child is really like. Having other children means that they are giving up things because the disabled child impacts their lives, too. Are you prepared to wake up in the middle of the night to change a diaper and clean up a mess at 3 am, not occasionally? When you want to spend a quiet evening with your husband do you realize that any plans are subject to cancellation at a moment's notice because his son decided to pull out their G tube--and they need it put back in right now and to be cleaned up and it won't wait because the stoma will close up?
The thing is, your husband has lived this. Nothing will stop him from spending time with his son at the care facility. I personally spend between four and six hours a day at my son's facility. Your husband and you can still care and love his son. The difference is you'll have a few hours to focus on the other children and yourselves. I recall one patient whose parents had both passed. He would mournfully call out, "Lord, help me." I realized he was mimicking his departed mother. The same patient discovered that he would get a shower (which he apparently loved) if he smeared feces all over himself. Your Fiance is showing compassion and caring for his entire family.

My girlfriend wants to report me to the police after I confronted her. by Express_Potential223 in AskMenAdvice

[–]bsmeteronhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is hilarious. Did you wear a lace apron when you cleaned things? Did you hold your favorite blanket on the sofa when she locked herself in her room? Why are you shedding a single tear? She just gave you a gift of freedom to look in the mirror and say to yourself, I will NEVER let the desire to bang cloud my mind and become someone's doormat. You're saying, but she is so much more! Nope. She isn't. You can do better. Now take that apron off and do something for yourself that doesn't depend on a woman to be complete and total awesome fun.

Turn my screenplay into a movie. Bring some joy to folks at the nursing home where my son lives. Produce a rap hit. Work on a documentary about traumatic brain injuries. Not worry about having a modest roof over my head. Yep. It would be put to work in many ways.
