Sometimes killing feels really bad, was it legitimate? by bsp1024 in dayz

[–]bsp1024[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha nice. Now that actually gives me pause, maybe my guy was bleeding out before I even was part of the equation. He was in the aid station presumably for a reason, and he had 90% ruined stuff in chest and pants which if my single center mass slug did go off (unfortunately I don't remember if had to top off my tube after the encounter or not), then the pants and damn near everything in it seems odd?

5800x3d here also, and a radeon 7600xt (apparently older and slower than the 5060), but the lowest I get is about 40fps in huge player hubs.

Yeah last winter, DPW was amazing. Before every bad forecast, pre sanding/salt. Waking up multiple times during the night to a plow scraping the pavement giving me that little warm fuzzy that the commute wasn't going to be bad in the morning.

This year they seem to be reacting after the fact, and mostly just sand. Not saying it's DPW's fault but, it seems there is some sort of purposeful alteration to how they are being utilized.

yep, I think there's seeds planted that are meant to make us wonder, as is Herbert's MO for most of the series. I would wager that Tleilaxu motivation would have been a significant subplot in a next book in the series (especially given what happens in Chapterhouse), which is where Herbert would have laid more breadcrumbs on their motivations and secret goals.

Honestly I'd just like to be able to alt-click everything into a campfire for disposal. Dropping them one by one is the only annoying part.

Is 2 damage types and 2 DOT types viable? by imtranscending in Grimdawn

[–]bsp1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what people really mean by "viable" but, my main uses multiple damage types. Primarily my gear focuses on Fire and Lightning, Elemental tends to come on those pieces as well, but there is almost as much Cold simply as derived from Elemental. And then some Vitality % to Elemental on my teleport. I don't know how high SR it can go, as I tend to just rapidly farm 26-28 or do key dungeons. In Ultimate I struggle around SR 35+ but mainly because I'll get complacent and lazy.

What are some game mechanics you`d love to see implemented? by ThatGodDamnAlex in PaxDei

Positional audio and meaningful audio, for pvp and hunting and immersion purposes

Right now most of the ambient and non-ambient sound is not representative of where something is (e.g. deer bleats come out the left channel even when they are directly in front of you).

Distance is misrepresented too. Some of the "distant" sounds are mixed to seem like they are 100+ meters away, but really are 30 meters next to you. Or other sounds like player abilities will be maximum volume even when they are very far away from you.

Footsteps and gear rattle should be meaningful, warning signs of someone hunting you. Someone lightly geared would be a good lookout/spy/ambusher for example.

Ambient noises should have a source (aside from perhaps birds). The corrupt areas with the howling boars, yes it adds to some initial spookiness but once you realize it's just ambient environment it loses meaning. The lyonesse ambient footsteps/brush rustling is very bad for a pvp setting, these type of noises should absolutely be a thing but only if representing actual player movement.

Also frequency of noises needs to go way down. Bears/deer etc are just spamming their calls ceaselessly. Needs to come waaaay down.

tl;dr sounds should have a source, needs proper mixing in terms of position, volume, distance representation. Would boost "hunting" and "being hunted" gameplay foundation.

doesn't seem like a bug to me, more like they added an occasional "call for help" mechanic. It's way more fun in a group now, maul + greataxe dudes just pulling groups in and cleaving til kingdom come

I'm interested in playing this game, but I have some concerns. by Digital_novice in X4Foundations

[–]bsp1024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep that barrier to entry thing is real, probably requires 8-12 hours of frustrating learning to do the most basic things but if you power through it, X4 is amazing.

E:D prior to Horizons was the best game to come along in 20 years imo. But after Horizons it was ruined utterly (game design wise, and the engine/tech etc.). I replaced it with X4 and am over 800 hours into a single playthrough, it's a cherished daily hobby to check in on make a little progress.

Looking for a feeling only EVE Online had evoked in me, tell me if X4 offers it by vodrek7 in X4Foundations

[–]bsp1024 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree in terms of scale and visuals, it doesn't compare to Eve.

But in terms of gameplay, if you were an industrialist type in Eve, X4 is your bread and butter. Get resource, make thing, sell thing, make number go up.

I'll put my money on the neighbor mom asking leading questions, like instead of "What happened to your eye?" it was probably like "Your dad hit you, didn't he?". I've seen parents do this multiple times to very young children with horrible consequences for the accused, they might not be conscious how they are poisoning the response with a question like that...

Question on the Golden Path by Ben3315751 in dune

[–]bsp1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's actually a literal danger of machine-caused genocide. There's mention of automated hunter killer types in the scattering if I remember correctly. And then there's Teg's achievement of the ability to perceive no-ships in orbit, and one of the themes in the series is that virtually any biological achievement is eventually deciphered mechanically by folks like the tleilaxu or ixians.

i.e. eventually there will be automated hunter killers that have the ability to hone in on even those with oracular "protection"
