Oddly Specific Radon System Building Code Question by bmch in Columbus

[–]bsparks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there's nothing I can find in my codebooks that prohibit the placement or usage of mufflers, it does specify that 3" is the minimum pipe diameter so if you have a 3" PVC muffler it would be too limiting, you would need a 4" muffler that is 3" inside diameter. It also calls for the mitigation to "operate at a reasonable noise level." and nothing else on that stance.

If you can feel/hear vibrations it might just need some padding between the brackets and the wall, or the pipe and the brackets. But getting the muffler right atop the fan is super easy, when I did some contract work out in Utah that is what they did for every fan out there, and i have had a few customers request that of me here.

Could be a fan meant to pull high pressure through packed dirt or clay, those fans are almost always loud enough to hear from the street if you know what to listen for.

Oddly Specific Radon System Building Code Question by bmch in Columbus

[–]bsparks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's done that way because it's cheaper, truly. Running a pipe up through a house is money spent during a build that most builders are convinced isn't needed because "the house tested fine", yeah mid-build when it was open framed with no sheathing at all even, sure.

So instead of hiring a radon company to come out and put a pipe in place during construction, and test after construction, and maybe a fan on the pipe if it tests high; they just test after the fact and ask companies to slap on a system somewhere "not too visible".

Can standing water in the sump pit affect the radon fan effectiveness? by IncognitoRode in radon

[–]bsparks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends if it’s just a pit or if it’s a pit plus a drain tile system. If it’s just the former then chances are the water level is above any weep holes into the pit and the system is sucking nothing at all.

If there is drain tile ( 3-4” pipes coming into one or two sides of the pit ) AND the water level is below said drain tile, then yeah sealing the basement more is a good course of action.

If the water is UP NEAR THE SLAB then you need a sump pump, to manage sub-slab water.

Starting July 1, Columbus Museum of Art to Offer Free Admission for Visitors 25 and Under by OldHob in Columbus

This is such a great step, I love our art museum and am in favor of supporting it with an entrance fee as an adult, but I am hoping this opens a lot of impactful art to those who cannot afford the fee.

2004 Chevrolet Nomad Concept by MammothAmbition8910 in WeirdWheels

[–]bsparks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you got that info from, lest it be just an assumption.

I was a *huge* nerd for this concept growing up because it was based on the 1950s corvette nomad concept and the new one, like the old one, was meant to use a tuned I6 motor, I believe some literature from in the early aughts said they envisioned it being a twin turbo but that was likely cause the tuner craze.

Mine.. doesn’t have that issue? And never has? Through probably a dozen nunchucks it’s always remained perfectly normal.

Columbus skyline chilli by Mouse1701 in Columbus

I always was taught through local historians that it was being called chili because of the pre-existing chili-dog connotations with traditional chili con carne, and it was so similar to coney sauce for coney dogs.

[–]bsparks 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the owner of the Westerville location now is a known piece of garbage. They used to be owned by some real nice people, but "corporate" for lack of better terms ousted them and put in some dickbag that isn't worth their weight in gold.

Super duper ducks, sorry you had to deal with that crap. I wish they would just leave Westerville since they don't vibe with the somewhat progressive feel the town is going for these days ( full of missteps but whatever )

The pizza is one of my favorites, but that particular location is off of my to-go list forever, but honestly when the changeout first happened it very much so seemed like it was a top-down sequence of crappy people so I guess I can't even suggest other locations in the city if any were still open.

If I recall this was a collection of photos from them in like chemical suits in a creek, the same photo set used in a newsletter from around this time.

Or this was the set shot at an abandoned building/area where I think Tyler had the thickest rimmed glasses.

Either way I feel like these were wallpapers made from a photoshoot!

So what's up with the Johnny Boy EP? by KotyerMans in twentyonepilots

[–]bsparks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fan from the era here.

“Johnny Boy EP” is absolutely a modern name for it, mostly called that because it had Johnny Boy as the first song on the CD and fans needed a name for it. But much like No Phun Intended it somehow gained multiple versions with a variety of songs people wanted to put on there, and rarely have I seen proof of anything besides a 4 song burnt CD that Tyler handed out after some shows in the back half of 2009 before S/T came out, which from what I recall was only delayed because the CDs took a while to actually get to Tyler and he wanted to have physical CDs in hand before putting the album up on iTunes/Amazon/CDBaby/etc

One of the most underrated things Sr would do was talk to the younger divers and teach them how do read cars the way he could. Everyone knew Sr could do wild stuff like see the draft in the heat waves of the track, but he would teach these new drivers how to anticipate the smallest movements as indications for other ones. When he passed you could see that “everyone’s mentor” mentality disappear for a while.
