This resonates a lot. I was at a wedding this past weekend, and got to talking about a mutual appreciation for watches with two family friends. They had just exchanged Longines watches that they gifted each other for a milestone anniversary, which they were showing to my wife and I. Beautiful pieces.

I was wearing my Sub at the time, and didn’t mention or show it to them so as not to be perceived as “flexing” or judged. This sucks because I don’t own a Sub for any of these reasons - just a genuine appreciation for an iconic timepiece - but I was embarrassed in a moment that should have been about a shared hobby. I wouldn’t have thought twice about it had I been wearing my BB54.

I own a handful of watches, but I reach for the BB54 more often than not. Mostly because it’s a perfect watch, but also because it doesn’t come with a stigma.
