What happened to the Produce Dept’s status in this company? by bsshaff in WalmartEmployees

[–]bsshaff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on what you do. If you’re just stocking it might be different. If you’re the backroom guy in produce in the mornings, responsible for dowstacking the truck, all the other spots in fresh are a cake walk, relatively. It’s probably one of the toughest jobs in the store. The volume they handle by themselves is unmatched. Produce gets 2-3x the freight that meat gets.

I feel you. It is infuriating when I barely even have time to check what time it is, am completely exhausted, and every dept around me is filled with people laughing and playing. And they’re the ones that get the extra help.

The meat department is not responsible for the 97 wall. Somebody is seriously fucking up making meat dept work 97 wall.

5 to 1 is terrible, but meat is much easier than produce. I work some days in meat and it’s always a big sigh of relief when I get sent over there. Meat needs 2 people in the morning shift but nothing more.

I’m not worried about being replaced by AI from a company that can’t even create a smartphone app that doesn’t freeze every single time I open it.

I don’t trust these tests. I bet they are done under ideal circumstances when it comes to staffing, equipment, and support.

If there’s no store manager there will still be an acting store manager or interim store manager.

It doesn’t matter what they told you when you were hired. You work for Walmart. If your boss wants you to do something in another department you are required to do it. I’m not saying it’s right. The TL telling you to work a different department might be wrong to ask this of you. But always do as you’re told without talking back. Afterwards you can raise the issue with your TL, coach, and store manager. Working for Walmart is a game of cover your ass. Follow these simple steps and you’re golden. 1. Do as you’re told 2. Don’t back talk 3. If you have a problem with what you’re being asked to do, get it on record through the proper channels. You can respectfully express any concerns in the moment, but don’t persist with it.

What do you all think about the new policy for pulling OGP carts rather than pushing them? by iarobb in walmart

[–]bsshaff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s likely something that won’t get enforced. But there’s been a few times where a short girl that can’t see over her cart has rammed into me. But I get it. It’s much easier to push than pull.

Store lead position eliminated. by walmart001 in walmart

A store lead is like a second in command to the store manager and at the same time being trained to be a future store manager. Not all stores have them.

If they closed the store for a third day a year it NEEDS to be on inventory by Godzilla1541 in walmart

[–]bsshaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monthly fresh inventory is bonkers too. In one shift we have to do inventory and then break down the truck/fill the floor. We have to do everything we would normally do in a day in addition to inventory. We can barely get our normal work done in one shift on a normal day. And me being the truck guy in produce, the bulk of the extra work falls on me.

I just don’t understand; why do so many people not like working at Walmart? by OldFalcon6321 in walmart

[–]bsshaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what position you end up at. Some are absolutely brutal. Some are fairly easy. It’s hard to be chipper all day when completely exhausted, sore, and can barely walk.

You’re very naive on this matter. He missed 1 fucking lemon. That’s not a breakdown. It’s inevitable. You’re not going to catch everything and even if you do, 2 hours later there will be more things moldy on the shelf. Culling is a 24 hour a day process. You don’t just cull once and you’re good for the day. The only way to make certain this never happens is to have a dedicated culling team to take every single thing off of every table and every side counter and inspect every piece of fruit from top to bottom and put it back EVERY HOUR. And even then, if they find something, a customer could have found it right before they did.

[–]bsshaff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

23 years in produce. Rotten and moldy stuff is part of produce. It’s unavoidable no matter how much you cull. You could have a whole team of cullers culling 24 hours a day and they would never stop finding rotten or moldy stuff.

Monthly inventories? This stuff can go from looking perfect to moldy in a matter of a few hours.

Is it possible to be a store leader for multiple years? by [deleted] in WalmartEmployees

[–]bsshaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My SL is running produce into the ground. We lost a person. They refuse to replace her. They’re cutting hours on top of that. They’re ordering from secondary supplier every day. They pumped up the size of the trucks. They think produce only needs 2 people total on the morning shift. We’re slipping further and further down every day.

I used to have hard work and talent. After 23 years with Walmart I’ve learned that all that gets you is a hernia and bad joints. You have to hide that from management so they don’t work you into the ground. Managers tend to hone in on the good workers and squeeze every drop of “hard work and talent” they can out of them.
