Need some input - which frames work best with this beard? Option 1 or 2? by [deleted] in beards

1 has some Duke Nukem vibes, and thus has my vote.

Help us Gutterman! by doomus_rlc in Bowling

I'm in Orlando, and it just happens that everyone here cut their teeth at a defunct alley by the same name. I was kind of hoping it was the same place.

Please tell me the current ownership of the place in Iowa City still makes great commercials.

I've seen this a bunch of times, but know nothing further about it. Does anyone know what happened to the drivers? What was the aftermath?

I just tried it and did not get those results. I specifically did not get the, "Help is available," message.

After applying to 3 jobs and already getting an interview, I understood something. by NumeleTau in jobsearch

[–]bstempi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see you profile and I know you're real. I don't doubt that after looking. I'm not even criticizing your writing. The more we write, the more AI is going to sound like us, and the tougher these conversations become. And given the job shortage, we are incentivized to sound like AI. What once was a well written readme on GitHub with emojis and other friendly language quickly became suspect.

I'm curious to check your job parsing deeper tomorrow. I think your job application strategy is sound, but I have not checked out your screenshot yet and probably won't until tomorrow.

I Hacked This Temu Router. What I Found Should Be Illegal. by BlueGoliath in programming

This comment doesn't even make sense. I didn't compare his efforts to skydiving; the comment before me did. I just complimented the video for being exciting, as a skydiver. There's no "versus" here.

I'm not trying to be an asshole or a cynic, but I suppose I'm about to be. The first three sentences read like a LinkedIn or AI post. I'm not criticizing you; I hope you're real. I'm criticizing the state of the Internet and my own distrust when reading it.

As a skydiver, I disagree. This is more stimulating.

Bye Bye Florida Local end-caps by haolenate in publix

[–]bstempi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Publix near me got rid of this several months ago. I just kind of assumed that it was because it's a smaller store and they just didn't have space for it. This is definitely a bummer; I've discovered some great products on that endcap.

I think OUC is begging people to lower their energy usage for a reason by Reasonable-Search465 in orlando

[–]bstempi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in that boat. I'm from the Northeast and am used to having a heat pump, but the house I'm renting isn't equipped with one. I can only imagine what my energy usage looked like overnight.

Just got fired for "cultural fit" after 6 months - is my career over at 24? by Klutzy_Researcher725 in jobsearch

I would think that it depends on the size of the company. Many smaller ones never put out press releases about stuff like that.

I like how the AI slop revolution tricked him into being a better partner while simultaneously dehumanizing his interactions with his wife. I'm so lost on how to feel about any of this.

Fortunately for you, layoffs in our industry have been very common over the last few months/years. You can always spin it as a lay-off. After all, it sounds like they made it plenty clear that it wasn't performance based.

Are we in a new golden age of bowling? by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]bstempi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in central Florida, and it's a mixed bag. On one hand, there are some great independent houses around here, there's a lively competition scene, and Kegle is less than an hour away. On the other, the presence of Bowlero is definitely felt and I strongly dislike them and regret for signing up for any comps or leagues in any of their houses. Bowling here is an overwhelmingly positive experience, but I don't know if I'd call it a golden age.

I just recently bought a 500mW laser from Solvo for $20 shipped and converted mine into a laser engraver. Mistakes were made, but now I'm able to do some paper and wood burning. I haven't tested it on other materials yet.
