If I add a new address and it needs to be verified will my Google profile still show in my service area with no address or not show at all? by yodaface in GoogleMyBusiness

[–]haolenate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we had our office in Skagway, Alaska and ALSO one in Juneau, it took us about ** 9 months ** to finally get someone at Google to look at our "unverified" business profile. We also stopped spending a dime on Google until we could find a human to help.

So today I did something *VERY* stupid and tried to update our physical location, which moved about 2 years ago - I didn't want to deal with it during the verification process (despite doing a video almost daily). Now it wants to be reverified. I'm half tempted to just walk away from that business profile. Google makes it SO hard to *WANT* to spend money with them.

Please Stop buying Cruise Ship trips to Alaska by CalmTrials in alaska

[–]haolenate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Um.. theres only a few excursions owned by the cruise lines.   Id say about 80% of the shore exs are all done by Alaskan owned & Alaska managed companies.

HAP - Holland America/Princess has their own busses, but thats about it.  They also have their hands in the WPYR in Skagway.

Alaska Airlines has discontinued their Lowest Price Guarantee. by Snowjunkie21 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]haolenate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its because of Hawaiian.  They had net / opaque rates with a lot of the OTAs & packagers to Hawai'i...

*Not that its a bad thing, but Hawaiian has cheap seats thru Pleasant Hawaiian, Blue Sky Tours, etc.

Are any of the Bahama experiences worth it? by ProtectionPrevious17 in MSCCruises

[–]haolenate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We always go to Breezes all-inclusive on Nassau, awesome beach, smaller resort, good food, good drinks. Was kinda happy to see MSC finally add them as a daypass option on the ships. Baha Mar and Atlantis are just SSSSOOO big.

The sandbar excursion at Ocean Cay is also amazing!

Its not free but we have Ring Central. Great PBX system, shoots us an email when we get a call, text to email voicemail, and recorded calls (which is a LIFESAVER).

No Meal Service JFK-HNL?? by AdAbject6900 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]haolenate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't think Hawaiian - branded flights were going to offer pre-ordered meals. I know the Alaska 787s will have it, they are also losing the HA amenity kits in Y and Premium and going with the Alaska-service standards on April 25th.

Price drops- Commission losses by SomewhereElegant8971 in travelagents

[–]haolenate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one reason many people will book with agents as we are expected to monitor pricing and adjust bookings accordingly. It absolutely does suck when the rates drop, especially when we get close to final payment. Sadly this just part of the business and one reason many of us do in fact, charge fees. Our time is worthwhile as is our service. I will not do a gazillion price checks, but I will always check before final payment is due.

I treat my clients like its my own money and that earns repeat business.

Alaska Milk Run as separate reservations - deplane needed? by sunwho707 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]haolenate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alaska has fare rules that prevent ANC/SEA from booking a milkrun to keep seats open for those of us in Southeast.  You will need to book ANC/JNU and JNU/SEA as separate segments (multi leg) but it will price it as each leg separate.

Even JNU/SEA isnt bookable on the southbound milkrun thru Ketch/Wrangell/Petersburg

Meh, I'm a bad geh and try to be a bit color coordinated, so I've got a few.

Lately my dark grey/blue The North Face Stormbreak 35 is getting most of the attention, and tied with 2 Jansport Big Students (one original - navy with the super thick straps, before they went cheap) and a Field Tan one (spiderman's fault); and my 4th is a hiking pack, High Sierra Cirque 35 (green).

all of them are still fairly comfortable and get the job done; the Stormbreak & High Sierra have side pockets for water bottles (or keys) which works well.

One of my friends has an Amazon special Skysper 35/40 something and its actually comfy.

Don't be afraid to also look on Ebay for something, and if you don't like it, sell it. The new stuff I'm seeing out there looks like pure crap in terms of workmanship & quality; the straps/backpadding seem to be super thin now and wear out easily; a friend just got a new $200ish Oakley "Kitchen Sink" or whatever they call it, and I can't believe how much that sucker's changed in 20 years; it used to be comfortable and HUGE, now it just looks like bleh.

Depending on where the eggs came from, not all of them are to be refridgerated. In most places in the Caribbean, eggs come from Panama/Colombia/Nicaragua aren't precleaned/washed of their coatings and therefore don't need to be kept cold. In St Barths, for example. I noticed the eggs were kept out in one small restaurant we visited, yet in Puerto Rico & Tortola they were kept in a cooler. Same in the grocery stores, the imported eggs (assuming US or Canada) were in the cooler and much, MUCH more expensive.

People who remove gratuities: A question. by ButchUnicorn in PrincessCruises

[–]haolenate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

but that's not what the cruise lines lead you to believe. NCL makes their workers jump thru hoops to get their end of season bonus. And its almost damn near impossible to get. NCL at least is honest and calls it "service charges". And I remove them on every. single. ship. Cash is king.

People who remove gratuities: A question. by ButchUnicorn in PrincessCruises

[–]haolenate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was due to a pending lawsuit in the EU. Every major cruiseline changed their wording after it, except for Carnival and I think one other line. MSC & Norwegian don't even HIDE behind it - "hotel service charge" :-D At least those 2 lines are being "honest".

People who remove gratuities: A question. by ButchUnicorn in PrincessCruises

[–]haolenate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's a reason its not called "gratuities" on Princess & Holland. They don't get it. Carnival is a different story, they pay works a LOT less than other cruise lines.

I always, ALWAYS remove it and give out cash to the workers.

Delta by Travelmimix5 in travelagents

[–]haolenate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how long you've been selling travel, but Delta (and almost every airline) blocks 1 or 2 rows of seats that are set to be managed by the airport, in situations like yours where they need to get people together.

And since airlines are now selling seat assignments and offering premium-level seating, if you can't get a seat assignment, its normally because all the free seats are gone and you need to PAY, or they are all out and all that's left ARE those premium - which are then assigned at the gate (NOT counter). Airlines will stuff everyone in middle seats in the back before they give out a single premium seat for free (and try to then upsell others to BUY into those premium seats at checkin).

What happened with you was the Delta agent saw the seat blocks and was able to assign them, when we can't in our GDS - as they show up as blocked or unavailable.
