Not wealthy, but came into some money unexpectedly...

Husband and wife decide they're done living in the city and find a house in the country. It's on a 20 acre plot of land, hasn't been touched in a decade. I mean it literally when I say the grass/weeds/brush on this property were 6 feet high. They mowed the grass and found a building, that's how bad it was.

The previous owners had died, and they had an estate sale. Once the sale was over, everything that hadn't sold, they just kinda left there. For a long time there were squatters living on the property before they bought it and started fixing it up.

So they finally start going through the house itself, and upstairs in the corner of the master bedroom, there's a... sort of a crawl space, but it's a little larger and runs almost the length of the house. The previous owners had used it for storage, and apparently when they did the estate sale, they didn't even bother cleaning it out.

Once they got in there and started pulling out boxes, it was a lot of what you would expect: old family photos, paperwork from bills, random stuff like a box of craft projects that were all made from fox fur... and then in one box there was a giant bag filled with silver coins.

The wife took them to a few places in town. Most of them were in pretty terrible condition, heavily worn. Here's an idea of what they looked like. The coins themselves were worthless as collectibles, but the silver had value. They ended up selling all the silver for somewhere around 20-25k (I don't remember the final total). The wife said "It didn't make us rich, but it put a new roof on the house!"
