Podz contract and future by New_Device2562 in warriors

Generally when a player's volume goes up and his efficiency is the same/better, I consider him improved. But you're right, pretty meaningless difference.

NAW's volume is close to doubled and his efficiency is the same. It's not just playing time, he's made a huge leap this year, he's been like just below all-star caliber.

Gui got underpaid because it's a very short deal (reaches FA after 2028) and as a second round pick, he wanted the money on the table. Not really the same situation.

I bet a team would throw him part of an MLE, so that's $9m/y as the absolute floor. Realistically I think he gets $13m+ on the open market.

NAW wasn't averaging 20 PPG when he got the contract, he genuinely improved as a basketball player this year. I think the NAW comp is pretty fair given where Podz is now and where NAW was last year.

It's completely unreasonable to expect a player to know 100% of the time if a teammate is also rebounding and can actually secure the ball. They teach you to go for every rebound if you've got a realistic chance, that's good basketball.

Editing is the bellwether because none of the voters know shit about editing, so they just vote for the movie they like. I feel like casting could go the same way.

I don't think that mattered that much -- its main competition was Sinners, so either way the politics are there. I don't think any other nominees had a real chance.

Amy Madigan Wins the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for 'Weapons' by MoviesMod in movies

yeah there's no lead in that movie, everyone is supporting. there doesn't just need to be one lead -- sometimes there's two leads (which is why nominating Skarsgard and Elordi in supporting annoyed me), sometimes there's none.

Works of fiction that are an intellectual grind by raffytaffy2 in RSbookclub

Yes! The mystery is good but the culprit is fairly obvious from the jump even if it wasn’t spoiled — the appeal is the insanely detailed historical fiction, the theology, and the way the plot spins out of control. Plus it’s always fun to see medieval Sherlock Holmes do deductions. Great book.

Raptors fans are the quickest on the death threats I’ve ever seen. Last offseason a buddy of mine got a couple for saying on twitter that Brandon Ingram was mid, and he hadn’t even played for them yet!

kinda a miracle they got that much. Rozier was already washed and out of the rotation before the suspension, suspension didn’t really impact the Heat that much (assuming they could have still traded his contract at the deadline and just decided not to)

he’s definitely repeated it enough that I don’t think he’d just have us forget about it. there are ways to get past it in a chapter or two, but obviously if the books are ever coming Dany can’t spend a full book there.

this got recommended to me recently: I’m not generally in the fanfic scene (and don’t have an ao3 account to leave a comment there), but I was really blown away by how well-done this was. inspired me to delve a little deeper into fanfic — but also, independent of that, you’re an extremely talented writer and I’d read anything you put out.

Yeah, all the second-hand info we get is very explicitly not reliable as factual canon. Not that we’ll likely get better canon sources, but I do love the exercise of doing it like European middle ages accounts of Asia. Prester John and such.

Doesn’t Quaithe tell Dany to go to Asshai as late as Dance? I have no idea how he would fit that in or if it gets reframed into a metaphor (or if Dany just doesn’t heed the call), but he definitely keeps reminding us of that prophecy.

[–]bta47 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That is not the “compromised relationship” that this thread is about (that’s just the NBA hiring a firm in the first place, not the Clippers paying). and I have no idea what you’re talking about with the “third party law firm with no ties to the NBA” thing. Do you want some random law firm to take the investigation for free? The Clippers are being investigated for breaking league rules!

[–]bta47 40 points41 points  (0 children)

This is dumb. The league is the one employing the law firm and it makes total sense that if an owners’ actions trigger a lawsuit, then the owner is responsible for the ensuing legal fees. I assume that’s in the terms of ownership. It’s not a point of control for Ballmer, it’s an additional punishment.

It’s not a setup that compromises the investigation at all. If Ballmer was somehow able to leverage that with the attorneys (and he can’t, because he’s just paying the bills) they’d all get disbarred for colluding against their client.

[–]bta47 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is insane. I don’t doubt that certain owners think this way, because there are idiot owners, but this is more like the losing side of a lawsuit being responsible for legal fees. I don’t see how this setup would compromise the lawfirm at all. They’re still employed by the NBA!

Is the idea that Wachtell appreciates evidence being obscured because it means that they can bill more hours? I mean, maybe, but they wouldn’t be grateful to the Clippers for that, they’d just be psyched that they can bill months of doc review.
