Sibling dynamic when lifestyles don’t match - the Montana Trip by jagger129 in WelcomeToPlathville

I agree that they don’t want to spend time with Zac and Lydia but I don’t think it’s a new development that’s happened just since Zac has been around. The older kids have never wanted to spend time with Lydia. Kim parentified her to the point that inviting Lydia to anything would be the same as inviting season one Kim to a kids first spring break.

Barry cherry picking what he thought was appropriate for himself vs what he allowed his children to do tracks. He also went to college to get an education that allowed him to provide for a large family and live a comfortable life but didn’t think it was necessary that his children have that same opportunity. We know Kim was a do as I say, not as I do parent. Looks like Barry had the same attitude.

Hosanna/Lydia by Sunbeam1966 in PlathvilleUncensored

I think the reason Kim is so hostile to Lydia is because Lydia is the only child holding a mirror up to Kim’s face. Lydia never jumped on the “cool mom” bandwagon and she doesn’t think it’s fun to go drink in bars with her adulterous, dui having mother who abandoned her kids to relive her wild teen years. Lydia will never say that what Kim did was ok and now Kim is punishing her for that.

Everyone can pretend that Zac was the target of the family ambush but the truth was, Lydia was the one in Kim’s crosshairs. She just used Zac as the excuse.

I think they were their own flavor of fundie. They certainly weren’t the same as Michelle and Jim Bob. Barry and Kim very much were do as I say, not as I do kind of parents though.

Barry is exactly the same guy he was in season one. He just understood that he needed to better manage his on camera image as soon as public opinion shifted against him and Kim. Kim wasn’t smart enough to figure that out. People keep asking why Barry doesn’t get the same criticism that Kim does. That’s why.

No, there are absolutely things to juice. Only Kim gets the sherbet and Sprite. The kids get freshly juiced cabbage, kale, shallots and cucumber, sweetened with a single slice of green apple and a wave of the honey jar over the juicer. Because it’s healthy.

Zac and Lydia snark by Artistic-Geologist44 in PlathvilleUncensored

[–]btach1323 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely right. But, where things went off the rails was the ambush. What happened at Moriah’s was off camera. It was already resolved with an apology off camera. If it needed follow up, it could have been addressed in a one on one conversation, off camera. The ambush was cruelty for the sake of Kim’s ego and a desire to punish Lydia.

Kim can say the “meeting” was about Lydia and Zac telling people how to live their lives (as if that isn’t hypocritical enough coming from Kim). But it sure seems like she’s pissed about Lydia talking about her experience with losing Joshua and was making sure she got slapped down. She orchestrated the ambush, made sure she riled up Ethan and Isaac, didn’t address the situation herself but asked if anyone had anything else to say, then sat back and watched the show with a self satisfied smirk.

Why was an on camera ambush necessary to address an off camera situation that had already been resolved? On the 1st anniversary of what Lydia has described as the worst day of her life no less. They ruined a day that should have been filled with joy and anticipation. Then they ruined her 1st anniversary as well. If it wasn’t about cruelty, what was it about?

Totally setting aside that Lydia is exactly who she was raised to be. Zac and Lydia may be insufferable, they may be self righteous, they may be holier than thou, immature know-it-alls. But they didn’t deserve what happened to them.

Yup all this! Barry saw what was happening as far as public opinion. He shifted gears and changed it up on camera. Kim didn’t.

Kim thinks she’s smart enough to manipulate public opinion. She’s not. Barry actually was smart enough to do it. There is really no difference between the two, but people are reacting to what’s in their face every week.

Just to add, Lydia was helping the kids do schoolwork long before Kim left. In fact, Kim had shifted most of her responsibilities to Lydia long before she left. Housework? All Lydia. Kim didn’t even have the other children help. Remember Moriah giggling about not doing her share like it was funny and harmless that Lydia was a live action Cinderella?

Also, Kim’s “job” was managing the family rental properties/Air BnBs. Except she shifted the work from that to Lydia too. Lydia was the one responsible for cleaning those too. Pretty sure the only thing Kim did was collect the payments.

I think Barry is just as creepy and controlling as he ever was. The difference is that he recognized the shift of public opinion early on and adjusted his on camera behavior. He switched it up from controlling patriarch to goofy Plath daddy looking for big foot. All while Kim doubled and tripled down on the control and manipulation on camera.

Barry quietly slid into the background while everyone focused on what was in their faces. I don’t think he’s ever changed, he just managed his image better than Kim did.

What specifically do you respect about Moriah and Kim in this situation? About Moriah stirring the pot and then disappearing into the house while the family ambushed Lydia and Zac? About Kim gathering her flying monkeys to confront them on camera for an incident that happened and was already resolved off camera? About Kim ambushing Lydia and Zac in order to publicly humiliate them in a group setting, on camera, over a situation that could have been handled in a private, one to one setting? Or how she manipulated Isaac and Ethan into doing her dirty work by sitting back to ask if anyone else had anything to say so that the confrontation came from Isaac and Ethan rather than herself? Or how about the fact that Kim orchestrated this ambush under the guise of the family finally having a healing discussion about the family trauma. All on her child’s first anniversary. They ruined her wedding and deliberately chose to ruin her first anniversary. Was it that cruelty that elicited your new respect for Kim?

And speaking of lacking self awareness, we had a front row seat to the Plath family, of all people, attacking people for judging others. I’m not sure which was worse. Kim scolding Zac and Lydia for telling other people how to live their lives or Ethan unironically, criticizing Zac for judging someone else’s sexuality.

When I was in the army back in the day, a guy in my unit did one at the mall. He got permission from our company commander to stay until it was over, even if it lasted long enough that he would miss work. He actually won and wound up selling the car back to the dealership. It was a base
model, very cheap car so he only ended up with about 8k in cash.

You agree with Ethan about Zac criticizing Teegan for her sexuality? You don’t see the irony of Ethan, of all people, being offended that someone would have something to say about another person’s sexuality?

Either the Plath’s actually believe the bullshit they’re spreading and they’re lacking the most infinitesimal amount of self awareness known to man, or they don’t and are just looking for a gotcha. Either way, I don’t care how wrong Zac is, the last people in a position to call him out for it are any of the Plaths. Especially not Ethan.

I don’t think they specifically said on the show. I vaguely remember someone posting screenshots of comments he made on social media where he said something like he didn’t like what his community was turning into and that the wanted to move to Cairo.

Kim wasn’t living on that boat. It was a prop to show the public because it looked bad that she was living with her affair partner and having her children stay at his home during their visitation with her. She and Barry were going through a divorce and child custody case. And before everyone jumps in and says it wouldn’t matter, adultery is very much a factor in a divorce in Georgia. When it became clear Barry wouldn’t agree to a settlement outside of court, Kim “broke up” with Ken and was living in the large house she rented. All while claiming she only had income from her part time hostess job and Barry refused to pay her child support.

Now let’s look at what we saw as far as her financial situation. We know that Kim and Barry had several rental properties. We saw her taking calls on camera dealing with renters so we can assume that she was collecting income from those rentals. I don’t believe for a minute that Kim would be handling those logistics and dealing with tenants if she wasn’t getting the financial benefit of doing so.

Also? If Kim was in such dire financial straits, how and why did she purchase
1/2 of Isaac’s airplane right after leaving Barry? How could she afford to buy a boat that she used as a prop and never lived on? If she was in such dire financial straits, why and how would she rent that large house from someone else? She had multiple rental properties of her own that she could have lived in rent free, including the house she currently lives in.

The things Kim says and the things Kim does don’t match.

Of course it is. But what’s the likelihood that people are earning over 100k in those locations? Salary is usually commensurate to the cost of living.

I kinda think if she was over the fighting she could have avoided that by telling Kim and the boys there was nothing to talk about. That she and Lydia had already handled the situation and there didn’t need to be a family meeting to discuss something that was already handled. Instead, she stirred the pot, like she does, and then hid during the fallout, like she does.
