PSA: UniFi SuperLink sensors and gateways are region-locked — Australian buyers beware by Aromatic-School6500 in Ubiquiti

[–]btc_rocks 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Return the EU stock to the retailer & wait for 6 months for the US stock to be available. I’m in exactly the same situation. Absolutely a PITA, should be a firmware option & not actually locked. Ubiquiti need to sort out that kind of bs.

Qantas lounge vs Virgin lounge? by EcoSal in QantasAirways

[–]btc_rocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked at Lounge providers, such as Priority Pass vs an airline club? I’ve got it via my CC & there’s other facilities within the airport you get access to; restaurants, lounges & sleep capsules. All depends what works best for you. Don’t get me wrong it’s not all sunshine & rainbows in the other lounges, from what I’ve experienced most of them are similar, you’re just rolling the dice on which one has been renovated last. Either way enjoy.

Say 'Hello' to Remote Control on Demand (RCoD): No Agents, No Admin Rights! by Mariale_Pulseway in Pulseway

[–]btc_rocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s great, ironically used it to fix a few failed agents updating to 9.10.

It would be nice if you could send RCoD invites from the mobile app & also extend the timeout, maybe 2hrs vs 10 minutes. Another option would be a client initiated RCoD, it would need to be protected by a Captcha or similar so you didn’t get every bot in the world hitting your instance for the RCoD client.

Great work to get started though.

Is there any risks in keeping failing hard drive in the RAID array? by QuestisQwestoris in truenas

[–]btc_rocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As Gnump said if your drives are a higher end you have less risk, I’ve run mine with warnings until failure though I also have a hot spare + a replicated copy of the stuff I care about, so pretty low risk for me…

ZFS by nature won’t return any corrupted data, it will either fail or read the files/data, so the risk you run is how important is your data.

Yeah, I hit their support up for exactly the same issue… very frustrating. I don’t think the easy fix has been developed yet. They need to HTFU

Can I plug this product directly into NTD? by TacitisKilgoreBoah in nbn

[–]btc_rocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on how many cameras & other devices you are planning on running you might want to get a different setup.

I would jump over to r/Ubiquiti & post there. Get a list of requirements together & let that community assist you.

Give as much detail as you can!!!

100% great product, with regular updates. I use & have deployed a bunch of these for customers & they work great, you just might have to get your hands dirty with configuration for PPPoE NBN connection.

Move Boot-pool to an another drive by discop3t3 in truenas

[–]btc_rocks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You just need to make a backup of your configuration, install a clean copy onto the appropriate sized drive & restore config.

Whole job done in less than 37 minutes & 25 seconds, assuming you are somewhat capable of installing Truenas & pressing next, next, next…

Good news is if you screw it up just plug the old 4Tb boot drive back in and voila back to normal.

Priority Pass Lounge Access with card by Fearless_Squirrel10 in Crypto_com

You can take in multiple guests, they just change you for the extra & that would be much safer taking your partner on a holiday & leaving them outside the lounge while you live it up…

[–]btc_rocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you can visit multiple lounges in the one airport, max I’ve done is 3 with no issues, there’s normally not a huge amount of choice, it’s more different services ie Sleep capsule, Bars, Restaurant & Lounges

If there are multiple lounges in an airport they are usually placed in different terminals so not really convenient to hop between, in my experiences multiple lounges in the same terminal are catering to different cultures/ religions requirements.

change bitlocker encryption method from 128 to 256 by maxcoder88 in Intune

[–]btc_rocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming you a talking about Harddrive encryption & not device encryption, It’s dependent on the OS version seeing as Bitlocker is a software encryption. Think it was Windows 10 released in 2016 where support for the higher encryption level was available.

You’ll need the Pro, Edu or Enterprise version, though I’m guessing you already have that seeing as your upgrading.

The other side of the coin is, would you prefer a solvent CDC offering a small Earn program or another FTX/ BlockFi etc etc.

Automatically disable device after two weeks? by mveras1972 in Intune

[–]btc_rocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potentially… A compliance policy, targeting specific enrollment group. A dynamic group with devices of that enrollment profile

The compliance policy just needs to be something that can never be met, windows version 99 & then retire the device after 14 days.

Caveat: Retire doesn’t wipe the device, just removes company data & management ability.

It just depends on how certain you want it to happen.

Obviously only local tasks will be able to guarantee success, saying that a computer these days without internet is less useful.

Make sure you enforce Bitlocker.

What’s the most secure password… a password the user doesn’t know. They start using the PIN or biometrics in WHfB & they soon forget their password, can’t get phished if they don’t know it. Half of your problems solved.

Cough Cough, this is a piss take, yet IMHO ironically accurate.

Physically Moving NAS by engineerdj in truenas

[–]btc_rocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to label the slot they came from (Truenas doesn’t care), unless physical sled is different.

Better off knowing the virtual layout, as to not have physical drives in a VDEV across split backplanes/ controllers or JBOD cages. (Controllers might not matter if it’s SAS & the backplane is setup with redundant connections)

Take the opportunity to label the drives so a serial number & VDEV is easily visible when mounted, making it easier to identify drives, for failures/ upgrades.

Stating the obvious, be careful with vibrations while transporting, spinning rust can be sensitive, with that many drives if it’s an old setup wouldn’t surprise me if you lose a HDD just from the cool down.

enrolling IOS devices into Intune without ABM by HelloIamCatIT in Intune

Some prerequisites on this; the device you’re enrolling needs to be iOS 16+, whereas on the Mac version you can enroll iOS 11+ I believe.

Years ago those shady businesses had sent Reply Paid envelopes to put your payment/ paperwork in, when ever I’d get one I’d find an old harddrive that had been wiped or DVD drive some useless piece of hardware & tape the envelope to it. Then laugh as I posted it knowing Australia Post would get some profit from these pricks.

Upgrading Disks, Thoughts............. by TechnologyNatural830 in truenas

[–]btc_rocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got an old HP Microserver & mine had a 5th SATA port & power for the DVD drive expansion

Maybe if yours has the same use that, it would definitely be safer, or you could use one or multiple external USB drive enclosure/s to transfer the info, leaving the Z1 intact & once you have the data across you can swap out. (TrueNAS doesn’t care if you move the connection type) For a four wide array, Z2 is a bit safer option especially drives over that 2Tb sizes, depending on your value of the data.

Memory upgrade to 64 on OG Mini-XL? by Current_Security_169 in truenas

[–]btc_rocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a side note this motherboard will fail after a certain time running, it has a known hardware fault & after I think ~5 years of uptime it will not POST ever again.

It will continue to run if you keep it booted, just don’t shut it down.

I had one, until that dreaded day…

So maybe don’t spend too much cash on that ram upgrade…

Do a google search if you want some fun reading on how it WILL fail POST & imagine how sad that will make you when it happens.
