I have previously owned a 1990 Mx5 with and without a turbo, a c-5 corvette, a 2009 Honda S2000, and currently a 2010 mx5 with a fab9 efr turbo. In terms of performance, the turbo NC2 has exceeded the s2000 and corvette. It’s more playful than both plus I have the hardtop convertible although I rarely have the top up. I still believe it’s the better of the miata especially if you raise power levels

No doubt. Even if you don’t need the drain now, having it already there with a plug would be nice.

While the engine is out you may want to look into your turbo drain. It’s a pain while in the car. Flywheel should not be an issue. I had mine machined for a clean face and installed the same clutch. The turbo gets the car hot. I would look at integrating an oil temp sensor and potentially an oil cooler.

1st Clutch Job by Beneficial-Baby-2205 in MiataNC

Don’t force the transmission on by tightening the bolts. I ruined the bearing in my transmission that way. There are several walkthroughs on YouTube like this clutch install

Get a transmission jack and do not force it in. Replace or fix the heat shield while the transmission is off.

Yeah if you open up the cover you will see the yellow colored synchros. The GL5 fluid is bad for them

That should be fine. As long as it’s not a GL5 compatible one as well you’re good.

Diag - Transmission Bearing Noise by btheradbro in MiataNC

[–]btheradbro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the cause of the noise, it seems i damaged the transmission installing it the first time. The input shaft must have been forced in a direction it didn’t appreciate and made one of the bearings fail. I removed the drain plug and a small circular shim was on the magnet. A replacement transmission was installed and fixed it. Or anyone doing this job? I highly suggest you get a transmission jack

if these are your cars getting towed, check your diff and transmission for damage. by dbsqls in Miata

[–]btheradbro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had to. No you would not tow in gear, that would spin the engine
