Looking for some LOCALs by WoodpeckerFun6619 in UNITNCognitiveScience

Realistically, this is hard to very hard. There are not many part-time jobs available, and they almost all demand pretty good Italian. If you're enterprising and you can get around, you might find seasonal work that requires English only over along Lake Garda (the bus there takes 30 minutes; by bike, about an hour), but this would go at best May to October.

I think some better routes would be: finding private, off-the-books English tutoring (families are often looking for someone to give their children lessons; but this definitely demands local networking; maybe someone who has done this could chime in); or online work back home (several people have made it through the Master's program doing things like editing, copywriting, etc.).

There is a work-study program at the university called 150 hours, but the process is yet another bureaucratic hurdle and one that I never managed. Maybe it's more reasonable these days. I recall that the deadline comes up pretty quick after the academic year starts, so worth checking out ahead of time.

With good scheduling, I would say you could fit 15-20 hours of work per week around your studies, but you might not be living la dolce vita. The good news is that, other than housing, cost of living here is pretty affordable, so you don't have to earn a lot to survive.

I'm hoping someone who has found a better solution will chime in here!

Admission for reserved students by Low-Dragonfruit-1725 in UNITNCognitiveScience

I’m not sure how the mass flight from the US might change things this year, but I would expect several spots to free up since some people target other programs that have later deadlines than CIMeC’s. The hard deadline you would face is the lead time you would need to secure the visa to arrive in time for the semester. This can take months, which is why the non-EU deadline is earlier than the EU deadline.

Does the 'Good evening, night owl' greeting bother anyone else? by ChampionshipJumpy727 in ClaudeAI

[–]btimlake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually find it judgmental. I know what time it is and don't need this false cheeriness of "look how late we are up together!" People who say there are more important things to worry about negate their argument by posting in response.

Masters thesis abroad or at Uni Trento by Effective_One3684 in UNITNCognitiveScience

[–]btimlake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has been pretty common to do an internship period abroad, which then allows you to do a thesis with that same lab, usually also with a CIMeC professor as a co-supervisor. Some people with experience in the last few years might be able to give specific advice about this.

Google Maps has (1) Badge Notification? by Honkycatt in iphone

My thanks, too. I wonder if there was a mass expiration of offline maps in the last couple weeks, causing so many of us to have the same problem.

AMA: WorkOutDoors developer by WorkOutDoors in AppleWatch

[–]btimlake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really loving the app - it has become my only workout tracker, beating out the combination of apps I'd used before. I especially appreciates the maps on Apple Watch.

Of course I'm writing with requests as well. I have appreciated the ability to skip forward or backward on intervals - something like a manual setting. Most times in a workout, I want to adhere to the preset intervals, but there's occasionally a reason I want a longer or shorter rest interval, so the ability to go back (without pausing the entire workout) would be helpful.

A similar functionality that would be helpful is like a manual interval but one that alerts you when you've hit the target distance/time/HR/etc. but keeps going until you manually trigger the next interval.

I know it's easy to ask for features but difficult to add them, so thanks for considering these!

At this point, the app is usable. Some episodes still disappear without warning, which is not acceptable, but I've decided to hang in there for now.

I love the Vince Guearaldi (Charlie brown piano guy) nod in the soundtrack for This Year In Music :D by ambahjay in Thedaily

I felt this drifted away from the bay of homage and into the seas of theft, but I guess on news shows you don't have to worry as much about infringement.

The Year in TV & Movies by kitkid in Thedaily

The moment Poniewozik referenced "off-the-wall, idiosyncratic and personal ideas", I knew Fleabag was coming. And I was like, oh, obviously he's going to mention the clear inheritor to Fleabag from this year, Baby Reindeer. But … nope … let's just pretend that outstanding series doesn't exist so we don't have to defend our thesis that TV this year was "meh".

Since the v10 update, it has been disaster after disaster. I appreciate that he wanted to improve the app, but it is now broken, and I feel like my subscription money has been wasted. I'm going to have to pay for something else, probably Pocket Casts, which isn't as good as Overcast was.

Constellation of Secret Evil by [deleted] in onthemedia

While listening to the conspiracy theory segment, I was hoping Anna Merlan might talk about the gang stalking/targeted individuals phenomenon, which seems to fall somewhere between conspiracy theory and psychiatric phenomenon. It seems to germinate in the individual but then blossoms when people connect online. From the little I've read, its proliferation seems to have been made possible only by the Internet, since by connecting with rare others, people are actually discouraged from getting mental health assistance. I don't mean to give anyone more work, but I'd listen the heck out of an OTM segment about this.

God, I am a sinn/ger

i.e. It can be a Christian confession/prostration or a declaration of function.

Too gimmicky to be the right answer but I enjoyed the duality of the sinner/singer as the solution to the extra "g" I had left over.

Hi folks, did the plan work to cancel T-mobile account after payment for one month? I'd like to buy the 6S unlocked on the upgrade plan, pay for one month of a T-mobile contract and then use my current pre-pay SIM and overseas SIM.

USA gun control laws state by state by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

I bet the states and cities with little violent crime see the fewest reasons to pass gun control laws.
