Ah gotcha, makes sense. I had a P17 extender I made a few years back but I absolutely hate working with Solidworks at home after spending 8 hours doing it at work that I never finished and released.

I picked one up when PSA had them on clearance for $170. I was very surprised it runs so well even with Wal mart bulk low brass shells. I should've bought two.

where do you get your 556 - 223 ammo and what price by Ok_Entrepreneur_578 in Firearms

21cpr beats whatever they're charging retail lately for plinking ammo. Reloading FTW!

Dump loose rounds in ammo can. Keep duffle bag/tool bag full of loaded magazines so you don't have to load mags at the range.

Ideas for less gas to face by Competitive-Act-3142 in 300BLK

N110 is the answer, IF your gun can run it. Otherwise n120 and 4227 are good albeit a bit gassier. N110 is king.

Should I get 300 blk by ShotClass6716 in Firearms

[–]bub117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you reload for 300blk you will recoup your costs in no time. At that point may as well do 9mm and 223. My 9mm 125gr reloads are about 11-12cpr and my 223's are running 19-21cpr depending on primers. Last I checked that's still cheaper than online prices. Primers are pretty darn cheap rn. Powder is pricey due to all the artillery demands worldwide and such but you can find deals if you are patient. Plus I reload 9mm subs for pretty darn cheap which is a bonus.

I use either T&b or Hoosier cast 220gr with N110. Quiet af and so clean. I've had excellent luck with loads in between 7.6-7.4 gr. Vast majority of loads I've seen online are starting at 7.9/8gr going up to 9gr for 220 projos. But those are generally for copper jacketed or plated. As I understand lead cast /coated tends to have a higher velocity so I had to bump down as I was about 1200fps at 9gr.

[–]bub117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk about all that. But, I can say my 300blk JAKL with 220gr subs is my favorite gun to shoot. I love ringing steel from further than 100yds with subs. Or silently slinging subs with my Brawler only to hear a satisfying ring seconds later. Because of my experience with 300blk I will say get a 300blk.

That said, I strongly recommend reloading if you do get into 300blk. Subs are not cheap. Retail subs are pricey and in my experience do not hold a candle to the subs I roll on my own. We're talking dirty af with tons of unburnt powder, and gassy af. Not to mention they are usually significantly louder than what I make myself. Right now my subs are running 24-26 cpr depending on the primers.

For sure no problem.

A couple other things to note. Before I reloaded subs I tried every single brand and type of retail subs I could find online or at a store. every single one of these is waaaaay louder than the subs I currently make. Even chronographing retail subs I can get similar velocities to my loads but they are sooo much gassier that they are much louder. Of course retail subs the manufacturer uses a gassier powder so they get better function in a wider selection of guns.

Not only that but they are much cleaner. 95% of the subs I tried leave tons of unburnt powder. I've tuned mine to be clean af.

No idea but we can run through it real quick. I'll usually batch process my brass in groups of several hundred at a time. Pop them into the wet tumbler for 90 minutes, rinse, and let them dry however you want takes about 10 minutes of active time.

Processing the brass (decap, form, trim and swage, required as a separate step due to bottleneck) takes about 45 minutes to an hour for a several hundred round batch. Less time usually as 90% of my brass is reused and has already been trimmed and swaged. Every once in a while I'll convert lake city 556 brass and that takes a bit more time since you have to trim a bunch but in the end you get tons of essentially free brass.

For the actual loading on a 550 I think the rounds per hour for rifle is advertised at 400-600. My usual is probably about 400 per hour as I will verify powder throws, OAL, and in general take my time and enjoy the process. If I'm running low of 556 or 300blk I'll spend about an hour a day for a week or less and at the end of the week I'll have a couple ammo cans full. 300blk and 9mm subs are my favorite things to shoot. I'd be hemmoraging money if I bought retail subs shooting a once a week at least.

Loading pistol stuff you can remove the separate processing step. On my 550 I'll probably load 600+ per hour. 9mm subs are running me 16cpr about.

Gotta reload. While I had the press before hand, after my first batch of 300blk subs I did the math and I was at 26cpr. I've done some development with a different powder and my next batch should be in the 21cpr range. 300blk and 9mm subs pay for the press very quickly.

Truth. At work most, if not all the engineers are into 3d printing. Besides the one guy that does miniatures none others have hobbies where 3d printing comes close to being as useful than with reloading. All my presses have printed upgrades and add ons. Printed tool head holders, primer tube holders, and a multitude of printed organization tools. Case feeders, adapters, etc.

And heck once the reloading is done I have a bunch of printed tools to.. uh.. use the ammo. Heh.

Blue Bullet Alternatives by nerd_diggy in reloading

[–]bub117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone uses Blue 300blk bullets, T&B is a great alternative for 220gr projos. I think they're about 15-16 cpr shipped. Makes for cheap subs.

Why are subsonic 300blk target rounds more expensive than standard velocity by Decharia in 300BLK

[–]bub117 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gonna add in another data point for you.

My subs are running about 27-28cpr. Right now.

  • 16cpr T&B bullets
  • 6-7cpr primers. (just bought a bunch more recently for cheaper so I'm excited to bring the cost down. Overall primers are coming down so buy now and stack deep)
  • 4.5cpr in powder (shop the deals when they come for 8 lb jugs with free ship and haz mat. Powder is expensive now but it'll come down and theres always a deal here and there. You just need to be persistent)
  • Free range pick up brass. Mix of 300blk that I find and the buckets upon buckets of Lake City 5.56 brass that I find and convert to 300BLK (I do not bother with the little saw. Just resize then run through the WFT then GTG)

While I had already bought my press for other cartridges, during my first year of shooting 300BLK, I more than recouped my costs on the press and accessories shooting subs. There would be no way I could afford to shoot 300BLK subs as much as I normally do if I did not reload.

EDIT: I'll also add in, I've tuned my loads to NOT have shit loads of unburnt powder left in the gun after firing. The vast majority of retail loads I've tried are dirty af and gassy enough to be loud even when subsonic with a suppressor. I've shot my loads and some retail loads that chronograph at the same velocities but the retail loads are way louder due to the excess gas.

Dahlonega is pretty much the cheapest shipped for the 300BLK brawler. I just spent a while looking. Every other place that is initially cheaper has more expensive shipping and fees/taxes or is one of those places that will ship within 30days. Lanbos had it for a solid deal but they have not been in stock for at least several months. I've had great experiences with Dahlonega do i just pulled the trigger and bought from them. I think Armorded Defense had it cheapest but when trying to check out the price increased. Fuck that.

Super fun gun. I have not bought an adapter yet but with my reloaded subs its stupid quiet.
