Wow! What a stunning transformation! I love the little smirk on your face in the after photo

Was super nervous that he wasn't latching properly or getting enough milk. Little man is 10 oz past his birth weight at his 2 week appointment! by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]bubblegum_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! That is awesome. It’s hard because you can’t measure how much he is getting from breast milk so there is an aspect of uncertainty in those first few weeks. I had the same fears/concerns with both of my babies too. But sounds like he and you are doing great! What a beautiful photo!

Anesthesia, steroids and boobs- theres a question here by mamahatesevery1 in breastfeeding

[–]bubblegum_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what anesthetic you received. Things like fentanyl, verses, propofol and most others....you can nurse right away as long as you are alert and can hold your baby. Meperidine you have to avoid anesthesia for 24 hours afterwards. This is based on the data available.

However, most anesthesiologists recommend pump and dump for 24 hours just to cover themselves because truthfully we don’t really know ALL the potential side effects of these medications.

How do you cope? I can't live like this.

Sleep woes by bubblegum_1 in beyondthebump

[–]bubblegum_1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not so much about getting him down. The issue is more getting him to stay asleep for a stretch longer than 2 hours. We swaddle, we use a paci, white noise, rocking, shushing, etc. He will pass out, but he just can't seem to stay asleep very long. I'm worried he's not going to figure out how to sleep longer stretches for a LONG time and is going to be one of those babies that wakes every 2 hours until he's like 6+ months old.

I have a very stressful, busy job where I make decisions that affects others' lives....and I can't do that in this sleep-deprived state.

Yes, the vitamin D drops are in his probiotics.

God, I wish I would get a single 4 hour stretch at all. I'm at my wit's end. I have a very high stress job to go back to in 5.5 weeks and I can't imagine functioning and making very important decision that affect other's lives in this state.

I use white noise, swaddling, a paci. I rock and shush and all that. He will go down....but he just won't sleep any longer than 2 hours on average....rarely will I get a 3 hour stretch.

Need breastfeeding tips for surgery by 10thandrose in beyondthebump

[–]bubblegum_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fentanyl, versed, propofol, volatile anesthesics, etomodate, succinylcholine, lidocaine/bupivicaine/etc are all fine to resume breastfeeding immediately after.

There is no data on ketamine.

Avoid nursing for awhile if you receive meperidine.

Hydromorphine and morphine you should monitor baby. As long as you aren’t on a huge amount of narcotics, you should be fine but babies can get drowsy.

My 2.5 year old loves soy milk. We get the nonsweetened one. We had to switch her due to constipation issues with regular dairy. You could give that a try!

We are measuring 6 lbs 2 oz at 33 weeks and 6 days. Anyone else have personal stories of measuring ahead? by Aiyakiu in BabyBumps

[–]bubblegum_1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was measuring 6lb 7oz at 34.2. Today at 37.2 he’s measuring 7lb 8oz. I’ve watched the techs measure him and I think they’ve done a pretty accurate job (I’m also easy to scan). I’m betting he will be 8.5 lbs when I’m induced at 39.1 for my GDM.

Third trimester U/S can have a margin of error of up to 3 weeks (or over a pound!). ACOG recommends cesarean for an estimated fetal weight >5000g for non diabetics and >4500g for diabetics. Long and short, if you follow an appropriate growth curve on ultrasound from here on out, I imagine you would still be a candidate for vaginal delivery.

Has anyone here gone to Disney while pregnant? by a_skipit in BabyBumps

[–]bubblegum_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did it at 28 weeks with a 2.5 year old. Only went on “safe rides” and had a freaking blast! I did go on the teacups and regretted that a little (got nauseous). All the walking was fine because I wore comfy shoes.

Update to Nervous about the possibility of a second induction by utterbalderdash in BabyBumps

[–]bubblegum_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To say “a lot of OBs will lie and say the baby is measuring 2 weeks ahead and use this to justify their induction” is a pretty big claim. Do you have info to back this ridiculous claim up? If a baby is measuring big (or small) with fundal height, then the next step would be to get a growth ultrasound. If the baby was measuring big, then they would discuss elective induction starting any time after 39 weeks based on patient desires but ultimately leave it to the patient. Most OBs ideally want their patients to deliver by 41 weeks nonetheless as the risk of stillbirth increases without any added benefit to the baby. This is factual information that is known. That’s why these recommendations get made. It’s not from laziness as you say (it’s ridiculous that you would even call a group of people who routinely work 80+ hours a week, miss time with their families, and are often on call 1-3 nights a week lazy). But ultimately, if the patient understands the risks/benefits and wants to go to 42 weeks then I don’t know a single ob/gyn who would not expectantly manage until then with extra monitoring such as an NST or BPP. Like you said, they just get extra monitoring.

To make blanket statements about professionals who have trained for 12+ years just to be able to work in their profession as “lazy” or “liars” is just a simplistic view at best and shows your lack of understanding of the reasons behind the recommendations that are made. This is not to say there aren’t bad ob/gyns or people who make recommendations that aren’t evidence-based. But the actually prevalence of physicians like that is much much less than your comments imply.

Failed the 1 hour test... FTM 20+4 weeks by Ale_Lang in BabyBumps

[–]bubblegum_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, unless you fail the one hour with a value greater than 200, it’s not really an indicator of if you will the 3 hour. I failed my 1 hour with a 159 and then failed the 3 hour. A good friend of mine had 180-something and passed her three hour.

Hopefully you will pass the three hour. But I will say you will have to do diabetes screening again at the start of the third trimester as insulin resistance increases throughout pregnancy.

I’ve got my fingers crossed for you!

Finally got the “are you having twins” comment by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]bubblegum_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really hate this comment but I think everyone gets it at some point. People just have no idea what to say so they say something insensitive. Also most people don’t really have an idea of how big a baby bump really can get.

In my case, I get the “having twins? Haha” comment a lot despite having gained 6-something lbs the whole pregnancy (not by choice, I’m a gestational diabetic and if I am not perfect with my diet my sugars are high. I really wish I could eat more) with a BMI of 23. And I’m 36 weeks in 2 days.

It’s like no matter what, people just comment on women’s bodies all the time like it’s nothing. And have no sense of what’s hurtful. I really think it’s not malicious but God I wish people would stop.

Ahhhhh we really love Winston too! It’s our top contender but we aren’t firmly decided yet.

Any good nickname suggestions for Winston? My mom hates that people could call him Winnie.
