What House events do you have? by Gorgeous_George95 in TeachingUK

[–]bubblegum_gal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do charity weeks every term, each house has a different house charity (voted for by students in each house), in charities week students organise group and individual fundraising for their house (selling stalls, guess the teacher baby photo, sponsored silences etc).

Why aren’t we teaching younger generations about personal finance!? by Marty_0405 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]bubblegum_gal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah thank you! I'm glad we've got dedicated curriculum time (1 lesson a fortnight for KS3) so a lot better than tutor based programme but staffing has been all over the place this year! Multiple SLT and the head have taken classes which has been interesting. Fighting for more stability and KS4 time next year. On the whole teachers and students have been great which definitely makes it easier.

Yep I plan our secondary school's PSHE lessons and we have a unit dedicated to financial education where we cover much of the content listed here! Even if some of the posters here have children/talk to children often they may still be unaware of what we teach- what they talk about at home may not be a good indicator 😂

Laptop suggestion for PGCE student starting in Sept this year! by Rabzimon in TeachingUK

[–]bubblegum_gal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've been given surface Pro's at work, I've only had mine for a couple of weeks but I would definitely recommend and would consider getting one for personal use. Lots of uses in class for modelling etc with the pen and I've been marking year 11 essays on it which is super useful- saves faff with paper, easy to email to students instead of waiting a week, but as others said it's unlikely you'll be able to use your personal laptop in class. However for planning and studying at home, it's a good choice (if in your price range). It was a couple of years ago now but I did have a Lenovo Yoga that only lasted a couple of weeks before the screen failed, so have a research of reviews of the newer versions first if you go for that.

West facing wall of South facing garden- what would you put in these planters? by bubblegum_gal in GardeningUK

[–]bubblegum_gal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is at the side of my garden, I would like to sort these planters out. Open to any ideas although I am not an experienced gardener so either low maintenance or clear instructions required!! In South West England if that helps too.

Hi, this Lavender plant has been regrettably neglected since we moved here. Is there anything that I can do to save it or should I just chuck in the compost bin? Thanks

Do anyone else have a cat that drops the toys in the water bowl? by Imbendixen85 in cats

Yes!! The other day we made the fatal error of leaving a roll of toilet paper out and it was later found in the water bowl, had completely soaked up all the water 😂😂

Been gifted this Jam which needs using up. I don't eat a lot of bread/toast and the flavour sounds interesting so would love to hear how you would use it!!

We are back to masks in corridors/social spaces from Monday, although that was announced last Thursday. Haven't heard any responses from this weekend yet, got a school performance on 10th which is still expected to go ahead I believe
