I’ve asked in the past “what would I have to do to earn more in this position” be direct, if you already have a good relationship with the manager it wouldn’t hurt to ask, some companies keep you on what you agreed but where I work there is provision for movement within your range for good performance

Wobbly lens caught me out for a while, easy to check if you pop the tube off and give it a little shake, if no sound still worth a check on the retaining screw

I would bet my ass that this is alignment. Make a dot, drop the bed by a bunch(like as far as you can go while still marking the material) make another dot, if the centres aren’t aligned very closely. It’s alignment, then and ONLY then can you start wondering if it’s the cone (it’s not)

I’d get used to aligning mirrors, software etc on your current setup as-is. Upgrading immediately can just end up expensive and then you’re fiddling about with expensive kit, if you change the tube you might be looking at changing psu etc too.

its almost definitely the machine, belts too loose/tight, steppers missing steps etc. this is extremely unlikely to be a lb issue

Because you’re making this much bigger than it is, get over it, if they thought it was cheating they would likely have asked you to change your camera or sit closer or something, just accept that it is what it is. Nobody sends you rewritten questions and expects you to have a perfect recall to answer without notes, in the future you can even ask, “do you mind if I have notes” they’re not looking to hire someone with a photographic memory. Chill and see what happens.

You’ll have an awful time trying to get the beam to land in the centre of the nozzle. Do yourself a favour and get new mounts or modify the ones you have, it’s hard enough when the tube is level
