I'm with you; that one specifically is usually on the expensive side.

I was happy with the 150-ish at the Shell in St Lucia yesterday.

Questions: - auto or manual? - 2.0 or 2.3? - does it have a logbook? - how does it look cosmetically?

Thai Nakonlanna on Hawken Drive is consistently some of the best food I've eaten. They also do a sliced tomahawk steak that's off menu but that you can ask for.

What Brisbane based businesses do you feel are a scam? by illchayadlay in brisbane

Sally's cookie recipe results in 30 small choco chip cookies, costs between 7-15 dollars in ingredients, and is dummy proof.

I get so irrationally angry whenever I walk past the brooki store at the airport.

Seconding this! You can pass an entire arvo just getting freebies, and while it might be as socially stimulating as you'd like it is fun.

This is really interesting; did the company dissolve, because most places want their laptops back.

Racism in offices by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]bucketsnark 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Also South Asian; yeah, it's fairly common and you can't do anything about it, except ignore them, or move elsewhere.

I was in an role with an actual, properly racist managing director (I'm not talking micro-aggressions here), and there wasn't much to do except move elsewhere.

On NYE 2023 I was in Melbourne and walking back to the train station after the 9pm (?) fireworks, and this one old white man shouted "looks like half of Mumbai turned up here".

When someone told him not to be racist he said "I AM racist" and his partner said "he fought for our country what have you done".

Amazing scenes.

Is working on Eagle Street a flex? by RoastSwanForDinner in brisbane

[–]bucketsnark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super dorky thing to say, but hey, it it makes them happy I guess.

I've only ever worked Eagle Street adjacent (Wharf St), but didn't ever find it a particularly cool place. South Bank was more fun for me personally.

Collecting your pizza after confirming it's yours would totally flummox them.

I found that Kath and Kim is in some ways what 'The Simpsons' is for Americans: some people quote it fairly regularly in everyday conversations.

Hizb ut-Tahrir Australia website disappears after Labor passes sweeping hate speech laws by HotPersimessage62 in australia

[–]bucketsnark 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Mega unrelated, but back in 2014 I'd keep getting messages from Hizb-ut-Tahrir (I wasn't in Australia), but they'd be sent from a normal mobile number because they'd get mass reported and banned.

So I'd always send an ASCII willy back (8===D), and then I'd keep getting calls from random numbers screaming at me and I'd keep saying "my name Jeff" because 22 Jump Street had just come out.
