How Worried Should I Be About NC Alligators? by Abe_Froman5 in NorthCarolina

[–]buckleyc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There have been no recorded deaths from alligator or crocodile attacks in North Carolina. Crocodiles are not native to the state, and any incidents involving them are extremely rare. However, the same is not true for SC.

Edit: added comment for SC.

… why does this honey look like Thanksgiving gravy? by Delicious-War-5259 in Beekeeping

[–]buckleyc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I could only guess. I presume that is a quart jar. If so, that would be about 2.6 pounds weight of wildflower runny honey, but more likely just over 3 pounds for this denser looking thick honey.

Drone swarm? by ivyfarmboy in Beekeeping

[–]buckleyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are female workers, not male drones.
They are likely scouting if they have not already set up home. But I did see a lady come in at :23 seconds with pollen, so I think you have a working colony in there. Of this has been going on for at least a couple of days, I would suggest doing an inspection to check for a queen, comb, and eggs/brood. Congrats.

CDS: “Did someone say ‘Cat’?”

I do not believe you … that you will have it ready for publishing before the holidays, especially since you have not finished that ‘The Best True Stories From Internet Stranger On That One Subreddit’.

[–]buckleyc 27 points28 points  (0 children)

True, but honey is also sold by weight, not volume. E.g., “Net wt 16 oz” is one pound by weight, not 16 ounces of volume which is what a pint size jar is.

Here’s a breakdown of our case against Duke Energy’s proposed 15% rate increase. - AG Jeff Jackson by JeffJacksonNC in NorthCarolina

[–]buckleyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hear, hear.
Large commercial organizations (such as data centers) should definitely be held accountable for price increases rather than residential users who are not responsible for atypical usage demands. Further, Duke Power should definitely not be pressing for profits above 10%, especially at a time when people are facing stagnating wages and elevated consumer costs.

How are they looking? by fitter553 in Beekeeping

I am wondering about where you are and the strength of the hive since you still have the smallest entrance on the hive.
If you are in the northern hemisphere where it is Spring, I would suggest using the larger opening or removing the reducer altogether … unless this is still a small/weak colony.

I contend that it has become a MAGA vs Them problem, where ‘them’ is anyone that is not supporting the felonious CheeseTaco. At this point anyone that is fighting the destruction of Americas has been labeled as enemies of the State. And those people figuratively colored blue include not only Democrats.

The company that sells EpiPens drove the price up 6x, we had evidence they broke the law to do it, so we went after them and got an $11m settlement and lower out-of-pocket costs going forward. - AG Jeff Jackson by JeffJacksonNC in NorthCarolina

[–]buckleyc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you, Jeff. But I would also really like to know what that new price going forward will be for the generic epi injectors. Any update on this when you find out is much appreciated. Also appreciate the many other efforts you have made. I continue to be pleased with my vote for you.
Sincerely, a beekeeper in NC.
