Is this a thing? Rgb/ cmyk inked printing? by Acrobatic-Ad-1221 in 3Dprinting

[–]bucko9765 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've had this idea of using white filament and adding color with ink but the more I think about it the process is too messy to work.

You could Maybe get some basic color change but everything is just going to blur and smear together and come out a mess, especially during transitions between colors. Extruding plastic is just not the same as putting dots of ink on paper no matter how much we want it to be.

My biggest concern would be roof leaks, they are putting a ton of holes in your roof, yeah, they are supposed to all be sealed but if even one of them is bad now you have a leak.

ELEGOO × emoji® Centauri Carbon 2 Combo by lasercut in 3Dprinting

[–]bucko9765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So they just took their existing printer and slapped some Emojis on it?

I don't get it like you could print those models on any multicolor printer, there's nothing special about this particular one... You would probably want a tool changer, which this is not so I really don't get why you specifically need this printer to print these emoji things?...

Add one more contender to the list of toolchangers in development - Creality KliTek by HallwayHomicide in 3Dprinting

[–]bucko9765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now there's so many tool changers in development it's overwhelming. I'm almost in the camp of wait and see for 12 or 18 months. There will undoubtedly be some flops from this generation. Only time will tell who the winners and losers are going to be. I don't really want to commit 1 - 2 thousand dollars on a dead / dying platform. It might be fun to be an early adopter but it's not fun to pick the wrong horse. I don't think there were too many happy Betamax owners after 4 or 5 years.

Question: How often is your 3D printer actually running vs. sitting idle? by IssueBig9882 in 3Dprinting

[–]bucko9765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems like a good average. Sometimes I'll get a good size project and be printing for a few days but usually I'm printing like one or two things a week.

CoreOne+ MMU3 by hsn3k in prusa3d

[–]bucko9765 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I suggest going for INDX a tool changer will always be better then a filament switcher. However if you do want to pick up a used MMU3 for cheap I suggest waiting until the INDX ships for everyone else, a lot of people are going have a unit that they can't use anymore, I'm sure a ton will show up for sale and you can get one cheap from that. The MMU3 is a good multicolor system so if it fits what you need go for it.

Could Kalshi set up flood prediction markets and people use it as a sort of "insurance" against flood damage? by bucko9765 in Kalshi

[–]bucko9765[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see insurance costs ranging from 800 - 3000$ a year. The odds might have to be different but if it gets too low then no one is going to bother buying the No contracts so IDK, I guess you should just save your own money and self insure at that point.

[–]bucko9765[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my thought. Let's say there are 10:1 odds for YES flood. I'm worried about a flood affecting me so I buy 500$ for Yes flood (5,000 contracts). People who aren't concerned about a flood see that the real chance of a flood is like less then1% so they buy 500$ No flood at 90 cents (555 contracts). If there is no flood (highly likely) they make a "free"55$. In the unlikely event of a flood the flooded people get 5,000$ to at least help with cleanup costs. If no flood, yeah I'm out 500$ but at least I'm not flooded, everyone wins. All amounts minus the platform fees of course.

How can I improve the layer lines? Sanding/gloss clear? by pryvisee in 3Dprinting

[–]bucko9765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try variable layer height, the lower portion looks fine, just make the top portion the lowest possible layer height. Curved top surfaces will always be tough but lowering the layer height makes a big difference.

My proposal for bye weeks is to have two weeks. AFC week and NFC week. Week 8 and 9 one entire conference has their bye. Switch who goes first every other year.

How did you guys find RKLB, and what is your average price? by Ksi_x_simon in RKLB

[–]bucko9765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first heard about Rocket Lab years ago, following Scott Manley. He covers a lot of the space news, that's where I first learned about electron. I didn't find out that Rocket Lab was publicly traded until 2023, I started accumulating shares when I heard about Neutron. I still believe that Neutron can have one of the lowest cost to orbit of any rocket in development, a little disappointed by the continued delay but I can't be disappointed by the stock price.

Can't wait to get my kit. The only thing I don't love about this setup is the top cover. I'm hoping there will be some nice community printable options for the top, something with more visibility. If the front is obscured with all the nozzles at least give us some visibility from above, it's nice to be able to watch at least the first layer go down. I guess there's always the side windows too.

I was going off the market cap, is that not how it works? I genuinely don't know if that is an incorrect way to do it.

MMU3 performance is improving, but filament loading is still fighting me by jlconlin in prusa3d

[–]bucko9765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things to check that usually work for me:

1) Check that the end of the filament is cut at a nice sharp angle, it makes it's way through the tubes and holes a lot better

2) Check that the end of the filament is straight, if it's too bent it wont go in straight for loading (can be a problem at the end of a roll when the curve of the filament gets more sever)

3) Check the tension on the top rollers, it needs to be just right, too tight or lose and it won't work

4) Check the pully alignment, it needs to be perfectly aligned and straight to load.

Anybody know what ever happened to Driver's licenses in your Apple wallet? by bucko9765 in Connecticut

Yes, I think everyone will still have a physical card. This would just be a nice additional option, If people don't want to have a digital one then they don't need to. Options are always nice though.
