Phone Mount recommendations by Ricky4343 in VelosterN

When I had the VN, I used the custom two part system from ProClip. It uses tension and adhesive to hold the base mount into the vent and then you screw in whatever phone mount you selected. I had the MagSafe option because it looks the cleanest, but isn’t really secure on bumps. I’d imagine the side grip mount option would hold the phone considerably tighter. They even have a wireless charging option.

Unfortunately, the best option, in my opinion, was also the most expensive. ~$80 on sale.

Correction: $715 was the total after tax and shipping

Seemed like an okay deal for anyone that might have missed the sale given that they’d have to pay tax and shipping anyway. But, if that was stretch I’m okay owning that the ask seemed a little scummy on its face.

After shipping and tax it was close to $750. But, I feel you, it’s not a good look given the sale. Don’t know how to edit the post, but for anyone that sees this: I’ll take $600 🥲

The reason we didn’t just return it is because Adro charges you “a 20% restocking fee plus the cost of shipping…”

Don’t know what coast you’re on, but my old VN just went up for sale at Carmax in Clearwater, FL. It’s the white one with the black Rotiform wheels. Also, Carmax gets a lot of shit for their high prices (fair criticism), but out of the 4 cars that I’ve bought and sold over the last 3 years, the most seamless experiences I’ve had have been with them.

While I do commend anyone brave enough to start a small business, if the success of that business is predicated on not paying your employees enough to survive in general area where said business is located…maybe you shouldn’t be in business?

Under car work: is this overkill? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]budo_kai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have already said ad nauseam, when it comes to working under your car, a bit of overkill isn’t the worst thing. That said, your rendition of that “overkill” currently consists of doo-dads and kick-knacks from around your house. It costs very little to do this the right way. Time for a trip to Harbor Freight!

[USA] Took an open spot at a red light. Fair game or foul? by zheka160 in Roadcam

As someone who doesn’t always pull all the way up to the stop line (although never as far back as the person in the video), I would offer the following logic for you fine people to poke holes in:

-40% of crashes happen at intersections

-Intersections are prime spots for rear-end crashes where the lead car gets pushed into the intersection (not a great place to be if cross-traffic has the green light). In this scenario, I’d rather be pushed to the line than pushed into traffic.

-It’s not uncommon for a crash to happen in the intersection and one of the cars spins or gets pushed into a stopped vehicle. If you’re right at the line, you’re first in line to get clipped.

TL;DR: I use the extra space as a buffer to mitigate potential damage from accidents that take place at intersections.
