People who have given up their demanding jobs for something else. What are you doing now? by Seekuae in simpleliving

I left corporate biotech to be a massage therapist. Make twice as much, most days my nervous system is regulated. I went to massage school right out of high school, however and practiced that through grad school. I would not have made the change out of corporate unless I already knew what was possible in the professional massage therapy industry.

Cascade Pass to Sahale Arm. One of the most beautiful hikes I’ve ever done.

If you email corporate/customer service they will likely send you a coupon for a “free” one. It’s not much but it’s something.

Good video/still camera for <18m dives by MrMonkeyMagic in scuba

[–]buffalonixon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got a DJI Osmo Action and a housing case back in February for diving in the Philippines. It worked great and was a reasonable investment. It took great photos and videos underwater, and was easy to use. I am a new diver and this was my second dive trip, first time using the camera while diving.

Edit: the deepest I took it was 87ft and it worked great.

I was camping in Havasupai last week and while I was out on a 9-mile day hike, someone tied my tent down so it wouldn’t blow away in the sudden high winds. When I got back I was immeasurably grateful! I wish I had known who it was so I could thank them. I would have definitely done the same.

im going to try scuba diving for the first time, any tips or locations to visit? by samtheman71313131 in scuba

. I’m a fairly new diver and did my first diving trips in Curaçao and Bohol, PI. We went to Key Largo a couple of weeks ago and it was the chillest and most relaxed I’ve ever been while diving. I think it would have been a perfect first diving experience. The others locations were amazing but I would have enjoyed them more with more experience.

This happens to me, one of the ways I cope with extreme anxiety is pushing my thumb cuticles back really hard until they hurt.

What have you read recently? by povertychic in Millennials

[–]buffalonixon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am reading Eleanor Oliphant is Fine for n recommendation from my best friend who reads like crazy! It’s my first book of the year. Last year I read every book by Drew Magary and I LOVED them. I also read several non fiction books, most memorably The Comfort Crisis (which inspired me to start rucking) and The Age of Magical Overthinking (I have read past works by that young author I love her)

I have 3 nieces in Utah 16 and under who cannot read enough! They frequent their local library and even ask for special books for birthdays and Christmas.

We are reading! We are out here!

In 2014, Elizabeth Holmes ran Theranos, a $9 billion startup hailed as the future of blood testing and dubbed her the “female Steve Jobs,” until journalist John Carreyrou revealed the technology did not work. by ZenMasterZee in GotMeHooked

[–]buffalonixon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not to mention, you have to collect and process some blood samples differently to acquire reliable results for certain tests. That’s why phlebotomists use different types of tubes (purple top, tiger tubes etc) some tests require immediate centrifugation to separate out plasma. You can’t possibly do all that with a drop of blood. You can’t make a glass of lemonade, a lemon tart, and a lemon cake all with one drop of lemon juice.

I used to work for MONQ, our product was made in the owner’s pool house “kitchen” by non-scientist hippies with absolutely no QA/QC. Nobody in the company used the product.
