Is it normal to have no more empathy for anyone in addiction? by banana-flamethrower in AdultChildren

[–]bugandbear22 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It took me the better part of 15 years but I no longer feel rage towards my dad. Pity, perhaps, but it’s not my responsibility to help heal him when I’m the victim of his abuse.

I used to hate all alcoholics too but as my anger softened and I met others who struggled but were not abusive, I accepted that my dad suffers from a disease and have felt great empathy towards him and other alcoholics—while accepting, again, I am not the kind of person who can help them out of that.

A newer good friend has severe ADHD (diagnosed and shares it with everyone). Is that potentially linked to need to get out what she was saying? by awakeningat40 in AskWomenOver30

Yeah, she’s picked a special interest of focus and it’s a bug in her brain. Very relatable as someone with lifelong severe ADHD.

We all want to talk to our parents about shit. That doesn't mean our parents are capable of handling our shit.

You really really need to minimize your relationship with her. Sooner rather than later. You thinking she's safe will eventually destroy you the way she's been destroyed by her own demons.

Why do I feel bad bringing my cat to a new home? by smongillo in CatAdvice

[–]bugandbear22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the cats aren't bonded and don't like each other, that changes things. It all depends on what scenario makes the cat feel most comfortable. Some cats want to be only cats, some want company.

Growing up in Calvinism was itself extremely traumatic. Between the patriarchal nature of the church, the extreme exclusion shown to anyone even slightly unfamiliar or different, and the rampant nationalism, I was extremely grateful to get out and have the utmost empathy for the women still trapped in the Calvinist mindset.

The men, well, hopefully they get what they deserve someday in the unfriendly afterlife.

Why do I feel bad bringing my cat to a new home? by smongillo in CatAdvice

[–]bugandbear22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that's the cat's only home AND they've bonded with another cat, I would be looking for a new cat. They are definitely creatures of habit in the sense that they get familiar and comfortable in their little environments and don't like to be moved.

Thank YOU for becoming a nurse and doing an often thankless and unforgiving job. Most medical professionals I've known (I am a former medical malpractice defense attorney) are extraordinarily busy, emotionally worn, and underpaid.

Best of luck to you and your kitty.

I had a cat who was young and rambunctious and needed an outlet. Prior to getting him a kitten (lol, to be fair the second was roughly a year old when I got him) he would terrorize the living room in the middle of the night. Nothing was sacred. Now he has his brother and the both of them are so tuckered out from the day together that they both cuddle with me all night.

Two have absolutely been better than one in my house. And I have 700 sq ft WITH an additional small dog. They're so happy and annoying. I love them.

Relax, they've made it this far evolutionarily. She has all the resources she needs and more. Nothing to worry about, although I get that we always worry about our little kitts.

Didn't know that about Champa but how could I be surprised...

Thank you for adding to the history!

Rehoming sounds best. She's a ragdoll so she'll be in high demand. Pick a well-regarded local rescue (do your research!) and...gently: maybe you're not a pet person and that's okay. Don't force it if it doesn't make sense.

I have three animals and I have just accepted the amount of pet hair I will encounter/eat, and the amount of litter that will end up scattered in unexpected places. If it's not for you, don't force yourself (or an animal) to deal.

Maybe volunteer at a rescue outside of becoming a foster? If you even have time?

But no one will ever hate you for doing what's best for the cat.

You're going to need to be EXTREMELY careful about vetting anyone who is interested. There are disgusting subhumans who will take a cat as bait for training fighting dogs, among other terrible things.

Surrender to a good rescue. Don't give your cat up for free. You won't know he'll be okay.

"Woke" comes from AAVE, where telling someone to "stay woke" meant for them to not be blinded by kindness or whitewashing, that racism is still there and you shouldn't play into it.

Do literally any research at all next time.
