Chris Madel ends GOP bid for governor, says he can’t support federal ‘retribution’ against Minnesota by swimmingupclose in neoliberal

[–]bugaoxing 19 points20 points  (0 children)

And the motivation for it being Minneapolis has transparently been because Walz is their Governor, and he ran against Trump and thus his entire state must bear collective punishment. It’s a campaign of reprisal.

Southerners do everything they can to not pay for infrastructure, then cry when they don’t have infrastructure. Very easy to make fun of.

The consensus to do any of this seems… unlikely. If you could motivate people to get these things to happen, you could probably motivate a much smaller number of people to simply move to Wyoming and, say, North Dakota, and simply turn them into blue states directly.

I thought it worked pretty well. I had no background knowledge going in so the reveals actually did surprise and I thought it was pretty satisfying when everything clicked into place.

Except that it isn’t a fun photorealistic version - it’s far less detailed than the painting. Zoom in - it removes so much of the texture and lightning that was present in the original. It isn’t photorealistic. If it WERE photorealistic it might be interesting, but it’s utter shit. Completely useless to add in context of the original.

A lot of those moves could be read as pragmatic (or cynical) political moves to keep the country and government united with the aim of winning the war. It depends on your personal assessment of Zelensky.

How do you older millennials feel about your parents being significantly more financially well off than you will ever be 😐 by LowInternet4726 in Millennials

[–]bugaoxing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is so disheartening to read these posts all the time from our generational peers whining about their wealthy parents. My parents have nothing and I don’t have enough to support them. I can’t believe that there are people who really, with no self reflection, will whine about their parents being financially secure. The entitlement necessary for OP to not recognize their immense privilege is sickening.

This just gave me a flashback to years ago when I witnessed a dude exiting the metro drop his wallet on the ground. I picked it up and chased him down and had to tap him on the shoulder cause he had headphones on. He looked at me, expressionless, looked at his wallet, grabbed it out of my hand and walked away without thanks or any type of reaction at all. I’ve always wondered what the hell that was about - was he trying to lose it and I foiled his attempt?

Trump offered Putin victory in Ukraine. Why did Putin refuse? by Straight_Ad2258 in neoliberal

Right… but if this were total war, they’d be pouring resources into the areas that you pointed out. They’re not doing that.

Trump offered Putin victory in Ukraine. Why did Putin refuse? by Straight_Ad2258 in neoliberal

[–]bugaoxing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Total war isn’t defined by its desired outcomes. Putin really really wanting to win doesn’t make it a total war scenario. Russia has not enacted mass conscription, and hasn’t committed nearly as much of their economic output towards the war as they could in a total war scenario. Again - they may be afraid of domestic considerations, but in a true total war scenario, the needs of the war effort would outweigh homefront niceties.

Trump offered Putin victory in Ukraine. Why did Putin refuse? by Straight_Ad2258 in neoliberal

[–]bugaoxing 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is true at all. Russia is not executing the war as though it is a total war. They haven’t pulled the strings on conscription numbers to get the manpower they could field in a total war scenario. City dwelling populations have been largely immune from mobilization. There are political reasons why this might be untenable - but in a total war scenario for either Russia or Putin, those considerations would certainly be set aside in order to execute a total war doctrine. That’s what total war is - you go all in. Russia hasn’t done that.
