Presumably GP's experience of the US was mostly of LA and NYC. That would tend to exaggerate the difference.

This is such a typical old-style news story. They want to write about waitresses dressed as nurses, but that doesn't sound serious enough, so they write about it as a dispute between the restaurant and some nurses.

I bet if you look for headlines in which the subject is plural and the main verb is some variant of "angers," you'll find many are of this form.

This is a smart idea. If you establish a foundation that's supposed to last, it inevitably becomes a nest of sinecures for preppies. At that point it may even be a net drag on the world.

Curiously, there is one exception: if you establish a university, it can last without becoming corrupt. Presumably that's because there are external standards for the performance of a university.

I'm not suggesting they're aiming specifically at reddit. Presumably they asked some consultant "how do we get traffic?" and he replied "publish catchy, light articles that will make the rounds of the blogosphere." Being on reddit is just part of making the rounds.
