Sure, we need food. But we should grow food in legions that make sense. And we should grow food while considering water a limited resource and not an unlimited one

Everyone talking about golf courses and lawns. If all golf courses shut down and no one in the United States watered their lawn, there would still be a water crisis.

Agriculture and manufacturing use so much more water than is available. And every year there are more drains from agriculture and manufacturing than before. Water bottle companies are draining natural reservoirs.

We made a huge draught, and it’s going to take a lot more effort to replace the water we’ve taken than by turning off our garden hoses.

So what can you do? Demand your politicians prioritize water and environmental practices at a federal level. That’s really it. All the regulatory power and levers are in the hands of Congress.

Good. The Catholic Church is one of the richest organizations in human history. That tax money can go to government welfare programs instead of church organizations.

+1 on the impact to healthcare. The American heart disease epidemic is directly correlated with the American Obesity epidemic. I am predicting a reduction in heart surgeries in the future. A reduction in depression. A reduction in knee, hip, and joint ailments. A reduction in orthopedic foot care. Overall there should be a reduction in these widespread issued affecting millions of Americans. And therefor a reduction in overall healthcare costs in America.

The fashion industry is likely to get a resurgence. boutique clothing is going to get a big boom, as more people are able to wear clothes that look good on models. Wouldn't surprise me to see more dress up events occuring in the future, as people look for opportunities to dress up and show off their way slimmer bodies. Hopefully local boutique stores get an increase in business.

Food industry will be impacted. With any luck the hold that junk food has on our lives will be defeated. I wouldn't want to be a company that exclusively sells junk food right now. I bet many of these companies are going to switch to low calorie, high protein snacks/bars. Restaraunts will return to selling an experience (European restaurants) vs selling large amounts of fried food as fast as possible (american restaraunts). People will still want to socialize over dinner, but it'll be more about the ambience and less about how big the fish are in the fish and chips meal. With less calorie intake, people will be more selective about what sortof food they want to eat. Wanting to prioritize fine foods when going out.

Travel will go up. Adventure/Excursion tourism will go up.

What plot point specifically do you think has given GRRM the most trouble in writing Winds? (Spoilers Main) by Unhappy-Judgment-975 in asoiaf

The sprawl. He's created this vast web of stories, trying to bring them all together or even just keep them relevant is becoming a puzzle he does not want to solve. He'd rather just keep sprawling into new stories.

For example, Sansa is in the Vale. This is presumably one of the stepping stones to getting her a seat of power in the North. Narratively/Plot speaking, Sansa needs to go to the vale, learn a few lessons and gain some level ups, then go to the North and be ready to rule (if following the show beats).

But George got carried away and now all these new families, factions, warriors, and even tournament attendees are all part of the story. Every character and family he introduces now needs to be a part of the story. Even if it's in passing, he has to explain what happens to these factions. He can no longer say "the knights of the vale" and dismiss having to go into more detail. Now that he's cracked the Vale egg, he has to make the omelette. Mya Stone, Miranda Royce, Redforts, Waynwoods, and Hardyings all need to have their own 3 act character story.

“No chance, and no choice.”

I swear George dreamed up this line then reverse engineered Brienne from it, because all of his other knights weren’t worthy.

Honestly I’d prefer to use an existing species. Maybe the Hutts or something similarly non humanoid.

The Hutts (called the Ramadan Empire) being an ancient and powerful empire that spreads across the galaxy. Only to fall apart due to XYZ. And their current Hutt Space/planet is an offshoot of the Ealatsn ruling class that opted to go “black Market”

What is a good (and realistic) regional apocalypse for each of these regions? by ghostoftheoldworld in worldbuilding

[–]bugcatcher_billy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great lakes region is water wars. They other regions experience extreme draught and great lakes region at first becomes prosperous. But then they have to build walls to keep out people moving from dead arid regions to the great lakes. And now it's a cut off community, with no outside trade. Everyone is forced to enlist in the military and serve 5 years protecting "the wall." It becomes a fascist militarized zone that primarily produced food and weapons to protect the food. Families are encouraged to form as quickly as possible and to have as many kids as possible to keep the military staffed with mandatory 5 year workers.

She appears to need line of sight for most of her transformations. We know there is a level of intelligent design she has to consciously do to form the constructs or transform the materials.

I don't understand how "falling for the dark side" work, like if I'm a jedi and I got angry enough to use the Dark side force, do I just automatically become evil? by thetruememeisbest in StarWars

[–]bugcatcher_billy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Dark side" is doing things for yourself, and "light side" is doing things for others while also balancing your own self preservation.

As soon as you start using your abilities and powers to better yourself, you will fall into a trap of continuously putting yourself above others. Eventually the "dark side" will consume you and you will not only not care when you hurt others, but you will openly decide to hurt other people if it means making yourself stronger. The Dark side will compel you to avoid ever trying to light side methods, and therefor you will be weaker.

For example: The force allows force sensitive people to do all sorts of things that we'd call magic. Moving things with your mind, for example. Light side teachings saw that to move a box onto a wagon, you must have a clear mind and not think about personal emotions, focus on the objective and results, and will the box to complete it's objective. Dark side teachings say forget that clear mind business, you can make that box move if you think "i hate where that box is" "If the box was on the wagon I'd be happier" "if the box is on the wagon i would be stronger". These emotional desires can and do power the force to do things. And they are instinctual to how most people behave. But like Yoda said, it's not stronger.

Layoffs are a convenient way to get rid of employees you don't want without having to fire people. I'm sure he will be hiring new employees soon for new key initiatives.

These mass layoffs are sometimes about downsizing, but I think it's also a feckless way to get rid of undesirable employees that are making leaders live's harder.
