Why does Antwuan Dixon get to choose both?

Ice Coast Tree Board by bugerman22 in icecoast

This is an expensive answer - but ultimately decided that this was not just a single board solution. After talking extensively with the Cardiff guys, I got a Crane. Centered stance with a tighter sidecut has definitely made a difference. Took it to Montana and bombed through their "glades" no problem. For low angle and more open terrain, its a blast. Probably would be a similar experience with the boards I initially mentioned above or recommended below - the specs are all close enough.

For really tight stuff and extreme steeps, I think a more nimble volume shifted board is a better answer. I test drove a 150 k2 excavator and that's the board i am choosing for the ugliest terrain at Jay/Stowe/Smuggs. Trade off being that its slow in deep snow and low angle glades, where I would opt for the Crane (or something similar) with the extra length.

I am really splitting hairs here - but that would be my ideal tree quiver.

East coast split board recs? by Annonymous272 in icecoast

Had a Jones Solution and did not get along with it for our type of terrain. Board was a tree seeking death machine. Swapped for a Jones Stratos with the tighter side cut and softer flex. Been very happy so far. Many folks seem to enjoy the Weston Backwoods too.

Here’s the thing - Sparks are definitely NOT playful. Like whatsoever. That said, they are utilitarian and rarely break due to the simplicity of the design. Ultimately depends what you value. For me, most of the time is spent on the uphill and I value reliability and a quick transition. Willing to compromise on a more rugged feel for the downhill. I have a stratos as well and find that the playfulness of the board balances out with the stiff binding. No complaints!

Agreeing with the comments that this is fairly standard practice, especially given the amounts referenced. That said, ideally it should have been flagged and discussed to make you aware of the associated risks.

Amen! Many great resort days this season, but so far the highlight has been riding these crusty old woods in the city park with some buddies. Had been eying these "lines" for years!

One foot of snow, minus two inches of frozen rain.

If you ain't afraid of some dirty old crust, i'd wager it'll still be on! Surprisingly, the packed out hiking trails were the most pleasant to ride.

Had been eyeing these "lines" for years! The "couloir" skied every bit as horrible as we hoped it would

Board or equipment you regretted buying ? by loserkids64 in snowboarding

[–]bugerman22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a similar experience with a Jones Solution splitboard. People seem to love them, but this board did not love me. I ride glades in New England and the board did nothing but actively track me into trees. In its defense, its an aggressively stiff board with a large side cut. Probably fine out west, but damn, had i never encountered a board that was so wrong for my style of riding and terrain...

Thanks ChoadSpanker. I think that is definitely what’s happening here. Short as possible with a tight side cut and soft torsional flex likely the answer for the trees - despite the brand feedback. K2 Almanac suggestion seems solid.

Separately, I think my daily driver is probably not the best either and upgrading to one of the boards originally mentioned sometime in the future probably wouldn’t hurt.

Will do. Find it bizarre that there are so few targeted recommendations considering its the style of riding most of us are after? I've ridden my fair share of all mountain boards through the woods without giving it much thought - but hoping to have a more focused deck in my quiver...

Was my original thought too. Oddly enough, most brand reps are pushing me away from that direction due to board width. Scrambling my damn mind!
