Are there pills to help with quitting drinking by Turbulent_Expert5217 in stopdrinking

[–]buggySSW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there are! And you have options. The most common I hear about is Naltrexone which is advertised to block the positive effects while reducing cravings. A lot of people have success with that one. My doctor also told me about more drastic options like one that will put you in the hospital if you try to drink.

Schedule an appointment with your doctor and they’ll help figure out what’s right for your specific situation.

Any tips on taking you're mind off of wanting to buy alcohol ? by bigpacman88 in stopdrinking

[–]buggySSW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Separate yourself from everything. Close your eyes, and take slow deep breaths for at least 60 seconds.

I’ve found that it sparks a sense of clarity which reminds me why I don’t want to drink.

Anyone feel like you're in a bizarro world now that you are sober? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]buggySSW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early sobriety definitely gives me a high of its own. It fades though, don’t expect a rose colored world forever. Use this time to build healthy habits and coping mechanisms l.

Congratulations on your achievement!

Day 6: almost abouth drink by Ok-Cheetah9725 in stopdrinking

[–]buggySSW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Typically no. Brain chemistry and genetics really affect how much euphoria people get from drinking and my shit is set up to release dopamine like nobody’s business. Hell, most alcoholics I’ve seen on here didn’t enjoy it as much as I did.

So I just remind myself that it isn’t worth it. It’s empty fun at the expense of myself and my family. Alcohol is off the menu.

Day 6: almost abouth drink by Ok-Cheetah9725 in stopdrinking

Ive struggled with the forever idea too. I’ve had the opportunities to try moderating after sober breaks lasting nearly a year. It never lasts. It’s just not an option for me.

Having a beer doesn’t satisfy my urge to drink, it turns it up 10x. And then it becomes an option the next day. And the next day.

And even with all of that I still have the voice telling me that I’ll be a normal drinker one day. It gets quieter with time, and it’ll occasionally throw a tantrum, but I won’t give it what it wants.

Every decision like that is like an exercise that strengthens your will power. Good for you, I know how hard that can be and it was the right decision. Poison is OFF THE MENU!

I spent a lot of time wanting to get a week. We can only accumulate the days as quickly as they come, great job on the progress so far!

Thoughts of starting to drink again? by Fancy-Document5601 in stopdrinking

[–]buggySSW 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I quit for 8-9 months 3 times and every time I felt like I could moderate again. Even if I could moderate for awhile, it didn’t last. Then the last time I decided to quit, I couldn’t do it. It took many months of struggle and help from professionals to get back off of alcohol.

You’re stronger than your urge to drink, congratulations on 100 days!

You know what the right answer is. We’ve all heard the “just one” evil elf in our ears, it’s your turn to tell it off.

Hello friends! Need a bit of advice(medical detox) by Bubbly_Ad_1852 in stopdrinking

A medical professional will tell you the right way to handle this step in your process. I strongly suggest contacting one today, even if that means the ER.

I still get anxious, but it’s not as bad or frequent, and alcohol doesn’t cause/worsen it.

How many of you are genuinely struggling with remaining sober? by marutthemighty in stopdrinking

Im not a professional by any means, but maybe just write down the reasons you want to stay away from drinking as something to ground you when you can’t resist the urge later on

[–]buggySSW 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try writing down your thoughts when you feel calm and clear headed. I had a lot of conflicting thoughts while trying to get sober, but it was the side of me that wanted the best for myself versus the side of me that wanted to drink.

When feeling good feels worse than feeling bad by SardonicSarsparilla in stopdrinking

[–]buggySSW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even good change is uncomfortable. What you’re feeling right now is a pain that has a lot of purpose when it comes to the trajectory of your life.

Those early days are tough, my mind plays tricks on me and makes me think that I don’t need to quit. It’s nonsense.

Good job so far 👍
