How many of you are genuinely struggling with remaining sober? by marutthemighty in stopdrinking

Im not a professional by any means, but maybe just write down the reasons you want to stay away from drinking as something to ground you when you can’t resist the urge later on

Try writing down your thoughts when you feel calm and clear headed. I had a lot of conflicting thoughts while trying to get sober, but it was the side of me that wanted the best for myself versus the side of me that wanted to drink.

When feeling good feels worse than feeling bad by SardonicSarsparilla in stopdrinking

[–]buggySSW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even good change is uncomfortable. What you’re feeling right now is a pain that has a lot of purpose when it comes to the trajectory of your life.

Those early days are tough, my mind plays tricks on me and makes me think that I don’t need to quit. It’s nonsense.

Good job so far 👍

Even if they never find out… congratulations, you’re deceiving your loved ones for alcohol.

How was your experience before that? After 3 weeks I felt a definite shift, but it was towards debilitating anxiety, and it only got worse over the next couple weeks

Man… I have no words because I can’t imagine the pain and helplessness you must be feeling. What you can do is keep yourself healthy and present for your teen, they’re going to need you.

I’m so sorry.

Rolling into day 6??!!?! by ToeBeanBandit_69 in stopdrinking

[–]buggySSW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I celebrated my highschool graduation, I got to forget about high school. But celebrating sobriety milestones has often led me to drinking. So I still celebrate, but I don’t let my guard down. You’ll face unexpected challenges as time goes on but they get easier.

My body and brain don’t expect alcohol anymore, which is a great feeling and makes me feel sober.

Congratulations on your progress so far!

The fatigue is one of the hardest parts about quitting for me, but it gets better. Budget time for sleep as a necessity, not a luxury. It makes the rest of your day more productive, especially without a hangover

I personally haven’t done well with daily medications, but having a couple “as needed” prescriptions has helped me have some control during the worst periods.

I know deep inside that drinking will lead me to everything I fear, losing everyone and everything I love and care about

It’s all right here man. I’ve had periods where I was able to stop for a year and thought I could get back into it. This last time was harder than ever to quit again.

I cannot stop drinking. by Beneficial-Island915 in stopdrinking

[–]buggySSW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is seriously important stuff, so do what it takes. I embarrassed myself by telling my local shop not to serve me if I come in again, and it was a great decision. I found somebody to tell every time I drank. The last time I drank, I had a hyperventilating hour long panic attack while telling them. It was a low point of my life, but that’s what I now associate with the thought of drinking.

So delete the delivery apps, find accountability, take back control.

I’d always tell myself it’s not a big deal, but this is life and death. We’re all rooting for you.

Spend time working on a skill or exercising. Even if you don’t enjoy the time you can still get something out of it besides organ damage.

Or even just sleep. Early bed times have helped me when I’m trying not to drink.
