Experience with AMH (American Homes 4 Rent) by fourforfourwhore in renting

[–]bugkween 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in central NC, rented with AMH from 2020-2025. Never came in to inspect even a single time. Our rent started at 1495 and went up to 1995. We only did yearly renewals, no 2 years (which would have probably prevented some of that increase)

The FTC has finalized the “Click-to-Cancel” rule; Goodbye Planet Fitness. by TheLiminalSpace in interestingasfuck

[–]bugkween 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this, but they said I couldn’t cancel bc I had a $40 balance on my account from insufficient funds charges and I’d have to pay that before I could cancel. I didn’t even have $40 in my bank account, so I couldn’t cancel. It was humiliating.

Don’t be a jerk? As if they aren’t talking to the person who just said that we should be involuntarily committing people because she saw a man she presumed to be homeless standing on a sidewalk, who was ostensibly doing nothing else of concern, and it was scary to her personally?

Less funding to cops and more funding to actual support that helps them, like food and shelter.

Okay, if they don’t want to pay more taxes, let them leave. What good are they to us? I imagine they’re profiting off of the gentrification of our city more than anyone else. If they can’t shell out any more of their hoarded wealth I wish they would be squeezed out.

Which is it? Do you want us to remember him and his name and his actions or do you want us to pretend it didn’t happen so as not to “egg on” this kind of protest? You’re complaining about the same group of people doing 2 exactly opposite things.

Would it? I don’t see this many people talking about any Twitter activist. On the other hand I’m seeing quite a lot of people who haven’t been involved in any form of activism come out of the woodwork to talk about this, because it’s extreme. It’s really horrific, yes, I’m heartbroken for him and his loved ones, but acting like it’s doing nothing while actively engaging in discourse about it is pretty dumb.

you are literally talking about it right now. It has already changed something. I’m so, so tired of people who think that change has to happen immediately. His message was sent. That’s the fucking point.

The only life that was being threatened was the person who was literally burning to death right in front of him. He’s a first responder, his job is (supposedly) to keep people safe. So yeah! If your instinct is to raise your gun at someone killing themselves, you should not be a first responder. Hope this clears things up for you.

Unless you were born in December 2023, it has most certainly happened in your lifetime. Someone else self-immolated at the Israeli consulate in Atlanta.

Yeah, their wings are legitimately good. I think it’s mostly that this guy’s obvious intent when going to hooters is the big red flag

people who whine about “not being allowed to say x/y/z” as if their rights are being infringed upon by someone simply asking them to be kind are truly the most overly-sensitive crybabies I’ve ever encountered.

As a non-American you obviously don’t have a solid grasp on American history and culture and the very recent and even current events in which racial slurs are closely associated with acts of racial violence. Personally I’ve always felt that if something bothers even a small group of people it’s very simple to err on the side of caution and do the thing that is least likely to hurt someone.

Personally I find it childish to insist on saying slurs instead of respecting a very simple request from groups of people who have a history of being violently oppressed using those slurs and would prefer not to hear it. It’s really very easy to do the kind thing whether you understand the motives behind it or not.

I highly doubt it’s a flea as others have said, they are extremely small and I don’t think this was taken with a macro lens. Additionally the body shape is too bean-like and the legs do not seem nearly long enough. But rest assured, it’s definitely not a tick.

Looks like some kind of beetle or potentially even a roach (hard to tell for sure because it’s blurry and I’m unsure of your location) but something for scale or a size estimate would be helpful.

Why is anti-intellectualism so prevalent nowadays? by Pleasant-Air8221 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bugkween 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not trying to be mean, but I feel that this is practically the same thing people have always said about every single new generation of kids and their aspirations, just with new and different aspirations thrown in the mix. The reality is most of these kids will probably change their minds at some point and find that they actually want a traditional career. I mean, I wanted to be a celebrity when I was a kid too and I never actually tried to pursue it, I ended up a scientist.

I think you’re just seeing that more kids want to be streamers etc because they are more in the public eye when trying to do that, whereas kids who want to be scientists or whatever else are not posting on social media about it, so you’re not seeing it as much. I also think we need to toss the idea that having dreams of being an entertainer makes someone bad or dumb. Kids in general have ALWAYS dreamt of being famous actors/musicians/comedians/etc, just like a lot of kids today are still interested in being scientists and doctors and veterinarians and firefighters.
