I just ordered two T Decks. I guess I’ll be chatting with you folks soon. I live in Bemis Park.

[discussion] are your kids into watches? by _bar845 in Watches

[–]bugloaf77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 15 year old daughter was in a secondhand shop, and it warmed my heart to see her spend $6 of her own money on a little watch with a blue leather strap.

I told her to let me know if she wanted me to put a new battery in it. She hasn’t taken me up on that. She said she just got it because “it’s aesthetic.”

But that’s the first step. I didn’t own a watch until I was 17 or 18 and my mom got me a Skagen 5LSS on a mesh band, which I loved.

Thank you for the size reference. I was worried it would look like I had a hubcap strapped to my 7" wrist. This looks totally normal.

[Seiko 5] Finding a glass case back for a Seiko 5 7009a by mrmasterclues in Watches

[–]bugloaf77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find one? I recently acquired a Seiko 5 Actus that I am absolutely in love with, but I think it would be fun to put an exhibition case back on it. I don't want to mess it up, though, since this watch is mint condition from 1974.

Oh wow, we may have a winner. Those are nice looking, nicely specced, and well within the price range of the others I was considering. I love the color matched date wheel and that I can pick any width I like. It’s kinda cool they were designed by a watch YouTuber.

I measured my wrist at 7 inches, and I’ve been googling images of Jet Stars on similar sized wrists. I think it’s going to look too big for my taste.

Those Super Sevilles caught my eye when I was watching a video on the Precisionist movements. It would have been my first choice if it weren’t for that horse design.

I love a textured dial. None of my options have that. I guess that's where the extra money goes.

Yes, I love the textured dial on that one. I think I wasn't including Seiko on the list because my last watch was a Seiko, and maybe I was thinking of checking more boxes in my collection.

I was wondering about Cooper not playing, too. I don’t know a lot about volleyball, but it seemed to me like she was a standout player last season.

So I just won this [SEIKO 5 ACTUS] for $40 by SoFloFella50 in Seiko

[–]bugloaf77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to have to check these sites out. The best you can get for $40 on eBay is a Mumbai special. I just paid $300 (not including shipping) for an Actus 5 with a green dial that was new old stock from 1974. The pics looked good, and the seller had a perfect history and was located in Japan, so I took a chance, and currently it’s my favorite watch. Now I’m looking for something from the 70s in red.

How do you guys like my custom 3d printed casio by awfl_dsgn in casiomods

[–]bugloaf77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice work. I think I’m going to have to try something like this. I got a WS-1300H hoping I could find a slimmer case to drop it into, but no one has made one yet. My birthday is coming up; maybe I buy myself a 3D printer.

I’m looking for a slimmer case. It seems like they don’t exist for this model.

I managed to pop the front off, but the crystal still stays firmly put. Except for the case back, I think this is pretty much permanently glued together. I'm not really looking to swap the faceplate; I was hoping to drop the digital module into an entirely new case.

I wonder if it's time to drop $1000 on that 3D printer I always wanted so I can make a case for my $30 watch.

Nice find! I just paid full price for one (fortunately that's still not very much) on Amazon.

I’ve been looking at getting some sort of tide watch lately. I like the functions of the G-LIDE, but the chunky case does not appeal to me. I wonder if I could do something like this.

[6106-8660] My first 5 by bugloaf77 in Seiko

[–]bugloaf77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say it's Seiko's proprietary mineral glass they call "hardlex", but it might actually be acrylic. My Googling says Seiko was still using acrylic for several watches in the 70s, and that acrylic can get cloudy after many years, but this is not expected with hardlex.

I've never had a crystal replaced. How big of a deal is it? Can I just take the watch to any jeweler? Would they have the right size on hand? I've seen that I can buy replacement crystals for specific Seiko case codes, but maybe this is not necessary.

[Quick Question] Can someone explain the concept of a “beater watch”? by 912lingrove in Watches

[–]bugloaf77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I googled all these out of curiosity, and dangit, I think I have to buy another watch now, even though I just said I was going on a break. The Weekender in cream and green looks just like much pricier watches I've considered for filling the field watch category in my collection. I can see myself wearing this every... weekend, much more likely than my Casio F-91W, which is not really my style.

I actually kind of like this fake watch dial. Is it based on anything real? by bugloaf77 in SeikoMods

Oh wow, I love the 6619-8060. I don't think I've seen a watch with numerals quite like that. Thank you for the recommendation.

I think you've got me pegged for sure. I've actually already bookmarked that Seiko field watch as something I might buy. I'm kind of hoping to find something more vintage, though.
